hello i was wondering about something. i just read something simular to this.my question is how do you fight in kyokushin tournaments. i know that it is full contact karate and you can not hit the head with the arm but you can with your leg. bu why kicks are alot more dangerious than punches and why can we not practice all of our attacks on our oppenent of course not the thumb fist but why not the seakan or hammer fist ect. allso how do they judge the rounds can we knock people out or just knock them over?
if there is tournaments like k1 or ufc why cant there bee something like that for kyokushin?

bye and happy newyears

as i nderstand, full contact body punches but no face punching. kicks to the body, thighs and shins, but not the knees or groin. and only spining style kicks to the face (no front snap or thrust, but round house and wheel are fine)

im not sure how points are awarded, but posible point winners are knocking the other guy down, if you land a punch while he on the way down or on the floor quck enough its oer there and you win. knocking him ot of the ring is point worthy and knocking him out for the win. and of coarse submittion due to broken things is another way.

theres a good vid for kyokushin tourniment fighting, there are many, many more on the net somewhere, just search around.

yours in life

Because that's the rules for kyokushin. If you want to change the rules, change schools.

The reason that face punching is not allowed pretty simple. Bare knuckle face punches would be really messy and bloody. Yes a kick is probably more dangerous, however it's far easier to block or dodge a high kick, than punches.

Also, if you get hit by a high kick, it's usually just one kick at a time, and it will knock you down if it's powerful enough. Punches are more likely to come in combinations, so you might receive multiple bare knuckle face punches in the face in a short amount of time, which I reckon is even more dangerous than a single high kick.

In training you usually just use circular kicks towards the head (so you don't bust up people's face, but rather hit them on the side of the head), however I'm pretty sure there are tournaments that allow any type of kick or knee to the head.

Simple reasoning to this: bones in your hand are small and are not as hard/dense as the bones in the skull. Have you ever tried to punch someone bare handed in the head? You are likely to get your hand broken!!!! So to me it makes sense not to punch to the head in bare-handed events like Kyokushin, as you are likely to injure your hand. A man got into a street fight in 1988 in the US, punched someone, and broke his hand. His name was Mike Tyson. If it can happen to the world heavyweight champ in his prime, believe me, it can happen to you.

These are very good clips of the rules of Ashihara Karate, a full contact style of karate that derived from Kyokushin.

hi thanks for all the info but i still think it would be cool to punch people in the head legaly (nothing i can do though) yes it is possible to break your hand on somebodys head but it does not garrentee it. mike tyson also could have hit wrong because he was thinking about biting an ear insteat of fighting lol. but billions of tounaments hit at the head and kyokushin teaches it in self defense. Besides kick whith round house to the head is more dangerous than ashigatana to the face. it could hit the temple and kill.

Go to a boxing gym then lol!!

Seriously though, no reason you can't cross train. Boxing is a very simple yet very effective system of fighting, and it is very easy to learn. No reason you can't add a bit you Kyokushin. Arts don't have limits, people do. Remember that and you'll be grand.
