Not trying to start any politics here but was interested to see how many punches are taught in you Wing Chun/Wing Tsun system.
As many have the deception all we have is the one punch. The Chain punch but this is certainly not true.

Whoah, that's a whopper! Like WC itself, the punch is simple at a glance but has great depth to it that can be studied for a practitioner's lifetime. If anything, I think the whole "chain punching" thing has been a burden on WC and it's reputation as an effective fighting art. At my school, we don't practice chain punches and only utilize them if it is the most efficient method of Fan Sau (continuation of strike). The WC punch is an adaptable one - it can be trained for power coming from out of position (like if the hands are away from the body). Using correct energy can make this a deadly advantage. Also, the chops (Fak Sau) and Bil Tze add to the hand's arsenal - another advantage because the punch isn't always the most effective way to get to an enemy's centerline.

What I meant by my post was that most of the deceptions in Wing Tsun is that there is just the straighline punch. However this is untrue. In the Chum Kiu we use a lifting punch and in Biu Tze we use a hooking punch. I am only seeing if people are taught this in WC styles of Wing Chun.
Heres more on the matter:

I guess it's sort of a matter of perception - for example if I bil sao a punch, then punch to the opponent's center with the hand that bil'd, is that a WC (or THEE WC) punch? In the sense that it travels in a relatively straight line, using elbow energy then yes it is. In the sense that it didn't go from my center to their center, no it is not - but changing the angle and firing from out of position are really the name of the game I think.
When you do your Biu Tze, does the hooking punch you mentioned come out like a boxers, with the whole body behind it, or is it drawing on elbow energy? Just curious

I've also learned what looks like a horse stance punch (with vertical fist) during long pole training.

Sorry for the late reply. To answer your question I am still new to it but it is based on elbow power like most things in the WT system. I will try and find a good video clip for you.

And 18lohans I am interested to hear more of this. Got any more info on it? As I havent seen this or heard of it.

The horse stance punch I mentioned was meant to build your basics for the long pole. It is the first time you are introduced to the more traditional horse stance in wing chun. The punch is very much like your chain punching in idea. You practice in 3's. Fists are still vertical, and you are still using elbow power. I'm not sure if all WC branches practice this punch. And I'm not sure if it's meant for combat. I, personally, have tried, and it works nicely.

Btw, you can find 3 punches in the 3 forms, just like you can find 3 elbows in the 3 forms.
