For the student, it is elitism. It sets them apart and (using the definition) entitles them to something.

For the instructor, it is marketing. Although it can show which students are dedicated (with exceptions).

I was taking the "Black Belt Clubs" to be students of every rank that pay extra to get extra. I did not think it was referring to actual groups of blackbelts.

If I am mistaken, then I think Blackbelt clubs are great. I have classes specifically for blackbelts, although we do allow some brownbelts to attend (talk about elitism! )
