It was "Imagine" by John Lennon. Not exactly music to get you amped up.
That depends. Maybe, like me, he holds Yoko Ono personaly responsible for the break up of the beatles, and finds her continuing 'professional widow' act obscene. 'Imagine' may well embody for Monson, the post Beatles 'John and yoko protesting in a bed' era of his career. Seething with rage at this waste of talent, Sylvia blurred into a very tall, but very real yoko ono in Monsons hate filled eyes. From then on all that was left was to ground and pound the evil b1tch into submission.
Sadly, like in real life, Yoko got her own way.
Of course, I could be wrong

My friend and I were watching and we were like "this guy has an anarchy tattoo and what looks like a guy doing the hitler hile one the back of his neck and he walks out to imagine" what's with that? most of the music was weird except Matt Hughes I expected "Contry boy can survive" by Hank Williams Jr. Cause that suited him perfect for his BJ Penn fight.

Jeff's appearnace fools alot of people. having met him on several occasions at ATT in Coconut Creek Fl(very near my home), I can tell you that he is a very mild mannered soft spoken man. He is also quite the activist. His views and politics are very left wing.
He is very outspoken, and demonstrates against, the war in Iraq. He also has a very socialist view on political and social issues.
He is a pacifist in the way that Cassius Clay (Muhammed Ali) was. "No I don't beleive in war, But I'll pound the living hell out of you in a ring".
Nice guy. Good fighter.
Question: instead of just training his boxing really hard, would some muy thai complete with LEG KICKS have changed the scope of that fight??

Leg kicks can work very well. Remember Marco Ruas vs Paul Vaarlens (sp)? My friends and I watched that, laughing to each other how the big guy (Vaarlens) was going to stomp the "little" guy (Ruas). Ruas proceeded to leg kick Vaarlens until Vaarlens couldn't move anymore. Textbook use of leg kicks.

Hey Page, being a TKD'st I certainly advocate more leg kicking but in Monson's case, in order for him to leg kick Sylvia he would need to get in close and that would be right into Sylvia's punching range. I think if Sylvia worked more on leg kicks he would have done even more damage to Monson though I can understand his apprehension of not wanting to kick in fear that Monson would latch on like a Mongoose and take him down, though after watching this I was fairly impressed with Sylvia's defense on the ground. Sylvia's height was his total advantage from stand up to takedown as the length of his body even on this back made for Monson to have a hard time reaching his face, though he was able on a few occasions, not to mention a few overhand rights in the stand up.
I think every aspect needs to be worked on and a lot more would benefit from more leg kicks, as GSP proved with Matt Hughes. Don't for once think that those leg kicks don't take take something out of you little by little. And when you constantly have to also think about the legs on top of the stiff jab in your face, you make the error of going in for a leg and taking it to the side of the head and the next thing you know you are on your back and handing over the title.
Monson ... don't think he was ready but he did a good job in my book for lasting 5 rounds and I enjoy him as a fighter. Anybody who fights Sylvia has to know it will be less then entertaining to go up against him.

Just saw GSP-Hughes. Amazing!!! The stand-up stuff was awesome, and although I don't consider MH a great stand-up fighter, he was made to look much worse than he really is. GSP is just so explosive! The takedown defense in the first round was great, and really took the momentum firmly away from Hughes. I feel a bit sorry for Hughes actually- after GSP escaped the takedown he must have been thinking "jeez, this guy knows all the tricks." It was also a very clever fight strategy from GSP, by using plenty of leg kicks he set the high kick up beautifully, leading to a great KO.
One question I have though: GSP is BIG for his weight, and as he gets older it'll get harder and harder to keep within 170. So where will he go- will he tone down the muscle, do some crazy water weight loss, or step up a weight division?

I don't see GSP big for his weight. When I went to his seminar in the early summer he wasn't cut like this so you know he worked hard for this fight. He only stands about an inch taller then me at 5'9.5", but I out weight him 35 lbs from his fighting weight and I am not fat in the least. I think he can easily keep the weight and cut what little he has to so as to stay in the Welter Weight Division.
