Neko4.. Even when you bring it up to full contact you will have to hold back, but think about what you actually want to do along with the technique you are performing. What I mean for example after a sweep you stomp the chest but think you stomped the head. You just changed the target. Instead of breaking the arm hit 3" above or below the elbow joint.

Another way to practice full speed is to shadow box/fight using all the ranges, it makes your combinations smoother and more instinctive. Nothing prearrange for long.

At the full contact level to test your skills do the 1 minute drill as if caught in a corner. You go full out for one minute whatever you want to do standing or ground if you can. You will note that very little at 1st (nobody wants to give it up) as you go along alot of damage can be done in a minute and full out 1-3 minutes you need to work aerobics drills along with tecnical stuff.

The Turtle Kata is longer then Suprimpei? Wow that is a long form. Which kata does it Share techniques with Sanseru or Shisoshin? Niether?

Do you guys do Bunkia & Kiso-Kumite? Or just Bunkia Kumite. Did I miss that in your quote?

Thx for the advice!

The meibukan kata's aren't really related to the other traditional gojyu-ryu katas.

I have never heard of Bunkia & Kiso-Kumite. If you goto the link in my sig, under 'Kata Info', it has all the kata's and below that (terms) is the various kumites I practice. Sorry for the quick reply, I'm late for Karate! LOL...

You mean bunkai of the kata moves? If so, yes we do train to learn the applications of the moves in a kata. We do have tournaments, but my particular dojo usually doesn't enter. Sensei Yagi will tolerate them, but he isn't a fan.

Speaking of Sensei Yagi, I went to karate last night and he was there! It was nice to see him again. It's always funny to see the reaction of people who have never met him before, when you tell them 'Oh, by the way, Sensei Yagi is here. He will be watching tonight.' Talk about everyone on best behaviour! LOL
