oldman, have you thought about 'naming' the techniques like they did in the bubishi? names like:
"Monkey steals peach"
"Closing castle gates"
"Serpent holds pearl"
etc...

I think whatever you decide on will be best for this Mark. I've enjoyed looking at these and would certainly buy a copy as they are not only easy to understand but very entertaining. Most certainly you should have a section in the back with a short write up about yourself and how this character came into existance. Talk about your inspirations and what can be looked forward to in the future. I do like the idea of naming the move so that a person can become familiar with it. And I also find it best to reference where you've gotten information which you could do in small text at the bottom of the pictures or referenced in the back.

I'd go with a text introduction to explain what your goals were when creating this collection of techniques and what you think of the whole concept. Just your thoughts basically. Of course, I just like to pry into other people's thoughts about this sort of thing.

Oldman, it pretty much speaks for itself although...it would be nice to see some text at the bottom of each illustration to simply explain the bunkai. Personally I would keep it simple as possible without complicating things. I will buy your book soon as it come out.

Been there. I was asked for advice/feedback on a PSA (Public Service Announcement). The person balked at my ideas to streamline the video, and make it a better presentation. Later, I discovered that he took all my ideas (not little ones, mind you...they drastically improved the quality of the PSA)...and he won an ACE award for it.

Of course, nowhere in the credits did he mention my contribution. Doesnt' say much for his character. Lesson learned: I don't give out ideas without payment.

It's funny you should mention the aknowledgment. A friend of mind just had his first book, a graphic novel published by Dark Horse publishing. He did a great job with it. Other than that, a 99.99% true account of your MA background and credentials is necessary; otherwise it may not be treated seriously and you definitely need to tell readers from which kata/form/set a particular application comes from so as to provide some fodder for future FA Forum "discussions"

Oh yes, copying from one source without acknowledgement is plagiarism, but from many sources is research

As mentioned above, I think it will depend on the audience.
Without text, you are committing to a more advanced audience, although I think anyone will be able to enjoy it, just based on the expressions on your characters.

Perhaps if you take the suggestion of naming each sequence, you could provide an appendix or devote a page on your blog for each sequence, which could go into further detail, variations, and invite further contributions from your audience.

When you finish, please let us know, I already have several people I think would enjoy this. Any chance it will be done before Christmas?

I will have it done by the 27th. I will be putting together 5 copies for the masters of my org for testing. It will be very interesting to hear their opinions on it.

After that... we'll see.
