Its been getting fairly annoying to get posts by people asking for JKD schools in there town. If you are too lazy to look in the phone book or on the internet then you probably wont make it to too many practices either. Also, if you were not smart enough to check the phone book then JKD is probably not for you.

In closing, do your own research work. If you find the school and get the instructors name, and want references, then by all means ask away. But if you want to know where the closest school is because you cant be bothered to come out from behind the keyboard then I have no help for you. your post will be immediately deleted.

Hi Chen

I was lucky enough to find a good Jeet Kune Do class and I acatually went along to it Friday after the gym. It was so much fun. I have had to look for a new Martial Art to do seeing as my Kung fu class has ended!

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. What system did you study before and who is the JKD instructor now?

There's two. One says he's DI certified, but I couldn't verify that on Inosanto's website.

Bullshido anyone?

I'm all for doing your own research. Suppose I lived in West Bumble, there aren't likely to be that many schools and a search wouldn't take too long. I however, live in a big city; and according to Google there are 22 JKD schools within a 30 mile radius from my house. Would you rather me list all 22 and ask your reference on each? Or would you prefer me to ask, 'does anyone here train in Atlanta, and have a recommended school'?

Again, I totally agree, this isn't the Yellow Pages, I know (or can find out) where the closest school is to me. What I don't know is if any of those schools have quality instructors. I don't know if there is a little hole in the wall club that doesn't advertise that I might be interested in. I don't know if such-and-such was a great teacher, but has retired, and one of his students is opening a new school next month.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here (I just naturally sound like one ), I'm just stating that when I ask such a question it isn't necessarily due to laziness. I'm trying to find quality information that I cannot get elsewhere. If you were to send me a message asking for a good Aikido school in Atlanta, I'd be happy to tell you about 2 that open in January - and tell you all about the instructors, and their instructors, and their facilities. If you asked me about Brooklyn, I don't know and I just wouldn't answer.

That aside, does anyone have anything negative to say about the Francis Fong Academy (for JKD specifically)?

Not all training groups advertise in the phone books. Just like MMA, JKD has long been supported by people who train in back yards, basements and city parks.

A forum is a great place to ask about local schools.

For instance, anyone wanting to train JKD and MMA in St. Louis Missouri should click the link below this post. (shamless self promotion)

My group doesn't advertise and hasn't in the nearly 6 years that we've been in business. All I have is a crappy web page. That was and is the spirit of JKD since the days of Bruce Lee. That isn't always good for business (money wise), but that isn't why I train or run the group either.

Anyone been to the group in Riverside CA? I thought it might be a dojo but after looking around it seems its in a residential area. Which after reading this thread doesn't seem AS questionable to me but still

I currently live in Antioch, CA. I'm trying to find a PFS school or group. I've check internet and phone books I can find none. We have some wing chun/JKD, but they aren't PFS, perhaps someone can point in the right direction.

P.s. I've checked Paul Vunaks website on fighting.net as well as the PFS site and dvd/video sites, none of them have links to schools or academies near where I live. The only thing I can find are sign ups for seminars. I don't want to attend a seminar for quick certification. Thanks for the help folks.
