i've been training very seriuosly for the last 3 years in traditional style of shotoan, and fooled arond with TKD and hapkido when the time was there.

A few weeks ago i moved away from home for school and now here i am far away from my beloved dojo, best friend and sensei. Lucky me!!, i find a shotokan dojo literally secinds from my new place, it's far more sport oriented then i ever hoped i would ever train, but i've talked it over with there sensei over the phone, and we've agreed to comprimise a little with each other.

Anyway, far off toic, sorry, i just got back from my first class with the guys about an hour ago, and i really could not beleive the btterflies and nervousness i felt as i was in the change room tieing on my gi!!!, really, now that i read the post it sounds like a stupid thing to bring up, but the last time i felt so shaken i....well lets say i was young and wasn't alone and the lights were off.....i mean, ive been pt through stres befor, my first competetion wasthe nationals, my last grading i skiped 2 belts.

i was terrefyed and i felt the worst kind of alone and i was woundering if thats ever happened to anyone else?? or for sake of descssion and comment will do, but lay off calling me a wuss!!!!

Why wuss...wuss,wuss,wuss,wuss...

No really (sorry, I just had to)...You want to make a good impression especially following your conversation. Will you measure up to what you projected during the conversation?

Once you get to know everyone & approach your training w/ humility & an open mind, you'll be just one of the guys. Just do your best & you'll earn respect.

BTW: I hope that you didn't prematurely kiai.

I think it's completely natural to feel nervous and even intimidated when entering a new dojo, especially if it's a different style then your used to. Your a newcommer, you know nothing abou thow the dojo operates, or really how the style in general operates. That's bound to put a knot in your panties, but as was said before, as long as you keep an open mind abou tit and go in as if you know nothing. Though I, myself, am not a huge fan of the more sportish styles of karate. But keep an open mind and remember, every style has thier own way of doing things.
As for the whole 'tekki' discussion, I won't even ask.

there nice guys, but im gettin an ego vibe off the lead instructor, that and many little differnece that have added up i have decided to make the hop to judo, in fact i just had my first judo class, and thats definatly where i want to stay for the next 2 years!

nice bunch, and theres something satisfying about hearing a grunt, then a wooosh and a flat whap!! i'll still keep up my own training in my spare time, and i hope to keep posting!!

As you've temporarily move over to Judo, remember there are no strikes/finishing in Judo, except after 4th DAN is some styles, which may take longer than 2 years to get to. It will be wearing on you, I tried Jujitsu and Aikido whilst training but I am Karateka for life and can't ever leave it so move back to 2 Karate Ryu instead. You may be the same.

I agree, I don't think I could ever move away from Karate, but when you have limited choices it's hard. Besides, I think Judo would be a great accent to karate. As long as you don't let your technique deterierate(sp?)
