Classmate informed me of a cool software for those into TKD...

www.tkd3d.com

Steven Lopez is part of the training program for TKD3D that teaches Olympic and WTF. Never seen anything like this ever.

As this is more an advertisement to sell this, I have locked this down. Should there be sufficient amount of justification to keep it open please contact me. Thanks

I asked Dereck to reopen this thread for debate reasons. I wondered as I looked at this promotion if this is actually something which could be useful in the future or if it is simply a way for steven lopez to make some cash.

Now, it is almost universally agreed on this site that you can not learn a martial art from a book, you can however gain tips and strategies from them. Is this the next step up from reading a book?Do you think that this will be an interactive way for taekwondo fanatics to gain the upper edge on competition or simply a waste of money?

The thing that I consider when I look at something like this is can someone really get all the minor details of a move from a computer generated fighter. Maybe or maybe not, I was simply wondering what all your guys and gals thoughts were.

I think that the top athletes have all the help they need to give them an edge. There was a post a while back about a top-level sports club and the technology they used, including all the specialist monitoring equipment you'd expect in any other sport.

If you're just a TKD ameteur who's looking to refine your skills, I think that more practice is all you need. A bit less time watching screens, a bit more time in the dojang I feel.

Agreed. Hands on and practice, practice, practice. I have available to me other students to watch me and of course my Instructor. I'm not saying that seeing what I'm doing wrong would not help, heck it has helped many other atheletes and such, but at my level this would just be a lot of flash and I don't have the cash to care. (nice rhyme, eh? )

I think with top athletes they have a talent that many of us will never see. Sure they can learn like everybody else but something in their genetics just makes them that much better or they find things easier. They will get this stuff especially with the right coaching. They will figure things out themselves. Something like this may be an aid but I honestly don't think it will go too far in the development of the majority ... I'd say it may help less then 1%, but that is my opinion that may not be shared by others.

Unfortunately there's not much detail about it on the site, unless I missed it somewhere in the few links available. Maybe if you can create your own moves it might be helpful, or even design it with sparring in mind and trying out different combinations before practice. Other than that, I see no extra use for it.

I also tend to agree that this almost seems like an excuse to not bust your bun's with continues practice. To an amateur it would be like "drip with sweat, be in pain..." or "Watch moves thru a video game, which was created by a two time olympic gold medalist...so it must be good!"

I personally tend to think that steven lopez saw that people are suckers for entertainment so what better way than to make a video game where they are quote on quote 'learning'.

I could be completely wrong though. I guess once I find out the price for it I might decide.

I looked at their site and personally I dont see anything there to make me want to purcchase it. There is a large lack on info about there product. They seem to be careful about making sure they give out virtually no details about this software, and that cant be good for us as consumers.
