Cord, I'm drooling already over the thought of a I-VI set in blu ray.

"If you havent seen them as god intended them to be, it is essential that you do so. Simple as that. "

By saying this, you aren't insinuating that Lucas is God are you?

Nope. The revised and updated versions are allegedly what lucas wants us to see, and he wanted no involvement in the release of the 'retro' cinematic versions- as far as he is concerned they are incomplete and inferior.

They are the versions that I and other ancient people remember going to the cinema to see however, and so have huge sentimental value to many. That 'wonder years' factor aside, I still maintain that they are better paced and generaly superior in their original form.

I just watched episode IV of this 'old' version. I was disappointed. it was NOT the version I saw in the theatre when I was a kid. several things were enhanced and there was even CGI added! I felt scammed for buying this. I can give some specific scenes:
* luke racing back home to save his aunt/uncle - the 'hovercar' (forgot the name of it) had computer touchup underneith to make it look more like it was hovering and less like it was frame-by-frame hand edited.

* right after bar scene - jabba was CGI - rediculous. they had no such animation in '78.

* same thing with the elephant looking things hanging around outside the bar.

* the engine of the falcon were enhanced in some scenes...some were not.

* short added scenes of desert CGI creatures - rediculous - not in '78.

and so on...

complete rip-off.

[edit] man, do I feel like a dummy...the kids noticed the 'Bonus Disc' was the one with the original version. lol
I checked some key parts and sure enough...just how I remembered it. (I saw it about 10 times in '78).

I already got a roasting from the kids...so go easy.

Oh Ed, as I was reading your bullet points i thought to myself, 'the dozy bugger's gone and put the wrong disk in!', and what do you know, my suspicions were confirmed

on the plus side, you have done a back to back 'pepsi challenge' between the versions, and i am sure subconciously that this is what you wanted to achieve, right?
