I wasn't having a go at you Eric, there are plenty of Star Wars fans out there who find no end of things to argue about. Is Chewbacca a male or female wookie? which is more irritating- ewoks or Jar Jar Binks? What exactly does go into Banther fodder? Should Mace Windu have been allowed to have a purple light sabre. The list goes on.
one of the big schisms has always been between the 'original' version trilogy fans, and the 're-mastered & updated' trilogy fans.
Those who prefer the updated versions point out that the changes and upgrades allowed Lucas to finaly show the story how he always wanted it to be.Fair enough.
The critics point out that the CGI has not integrated well and has altered the feel of the movies, that the change to the music in Jabba's bar, and the ewok victory party were unecessary and inferior, that the upgraded sound is only an improvement if you happen to have surround sound, and that the extra scenes spliced in here and there damage the pacing of the movies and smell of backtracking for continuity in relation to the newer episodes 1-3.
All fans, I think, will agree to being a little tired with all the repackaging, special editions and re-issues that are springing up left and right, and smell the stink of a 'cash cow' being over milked.
I have the updates on VHS box set from there initial release. i never bought the DVD's of them as frankly, I didnt like em too much. i knew that others felt the same and that it would be only a matter of time till the 'theatrical' versions came up for DVD release, and here they are, and they are great.
Next up will be the episode I-VI all extras, all version super duper blu ray box set next christmas. Best we all start saving now
