I jammed (sprained?) a finger during training around 6 weeks ago. Despite not having trained krav maga since and not doing much with that hand/finger otherwise, the finger doesn't seem to be healing. And now, oddly enough, it seems to have gotten worse.

I should probably splint it. Any other suggestions for fixing the problem?

I was hoping it would go away fast enough to not have to see a doctor... guess I'm wrong. *grumble*

I think the last time I did anything like this to my finger was when I was in my early 20s (i.e. ages ago)... don't remember how I dealt with it back then... grrrmf!

I don't know about any bony sprainy disease, but I do have a permanently injured finger. Jammed by a high-velocity soccer ball it swelled up immediately. Two-three months later and still in pain I go to the doctor, he sends me to a specialist (don't remember what type, sorry). Specialist says I tore the lateral ligaments in the joint. Gave me a compression wrap that allowed mobility and told me to use it until the roll was gone.

4 years later the joint is still permanently swollen and I cannot pop that knuckle without extreme pain (I don't even try). But I still do have full range of motion in that joint.
Funny enough the specialist told me the smartest thing I did was not go to a doctor because they always splint your finger and keep it immobilized. That leads to atrophy and loss of range of motion. By constantly using it I kept full use and strength in that finger. Both the doctor and the specialist had that same injury in other fingers and had range of motion problems because their fingers got splinted.

I wouldn't reccomend to not go to a doctor, but keep what I said in mind if they try to spling you up. Best wishes.

If it is worse after 6 weeks then the chances are that you broke it, and have incurred all the lovely ligament damage that goes with it. Whilst it is true that taping a broken finger to its neighbour is all that can be done, failure to do that can lead to a mend that is out of shape and can cause long term problems. You need medical attention to fix this finger and get the appropriate after care.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I do have a small bone chip floating around in there as well.
