I joined this forum only a couple days ago, so i must apologise for flooding you all with questions, but I do wish to get healthier in almost every way. I currently have a terrible diet, and I wish to change it. My main goal is to put on muscle, as I am 6'2 and only weigh 160 ibs, Ive started using weights and am doing some cardio, but I think all of these would be useless without utterly changing my diet for the better. Does anyone have any good advice as to what I should eat during my days to aid me in muscle development? Also, is taking protein supplements bad for me at my age? Thanks guys!

Its not bad for you, but is unnecessary.

You need to make sure that you cut convenience foods out of your diet, limit your intake of chocolate and chips.

Make sure you get three big squares a day with lots of veg carbs and protein (carbs- pasta, rice , cereal, bread, potatoes. Protein- lean meat, fish, chicken).

If you get hungry between meals eat fruit, raw nuts, and drink milk.

Thats it. Simple natural food in generous quantities.

Thankyou cord, I am trying to work on a sort of eating plan if you will, Your advice is appreciated, Im sure that cutting out chocolate and rubbish from my diet wont be easy but Im going to give it a try. So far plan looks like this -

Breakfast - 5 weet bix Lunch - Peanut butter/Chicken wholemeal sandwiches and some fruit/nuts Dinner - Massive bowl of ravioli. (nuts/fruit snacks throughout day)

Will this do? sorry but if I am to follow this religiously I need to be clear it is what I should be eating. Once again thankyou for your advice cord.

looks ok- you need some veggies in there though- salad in the sandwich and some greens with the ravioli to balance things.
also, eat different things every day, too mush repetition gets dull, and you need variety to ensure balanced nutrition.

Its a good first stab at it though

also, one problem i have is that I eat until I am full, Only eat until you are not hungry, and try to cut out high calory foods with high fat content completely if possible. That means limited to no cookies, sweets, etc....sweets are the death of me, I hate them but they love me T_T

I personally think its okay to pig out one day out of the week, as long as you can control yourself and not let it spread through the WHOLE week.

hehe, I just stocked up on mixed nuts, bread and pasta lol. I gotta say though its only been 1 day and im massively craving chocolate. And sadly for one week only our tuckshop is selling cokes and chocolate bars for only 1 dollar. God hates me.

EDIT- Hey i read on another post that milk is really fattening..this true? lol

Anything in excess will be 'fattening'. All body fat is, is stored energy: 3500calories to the pound!

eat more energy than you need on a regular basis and fat deposits will build- the energy could come from milk, or chocolate, or chicken, or rice, or protein shakes, or nuts, or fruit- you get the idea.

I always have low fat/fully skimmed milk to ensure I regulate fat intake from dairy. tastes a bit 'watery' at first, but you get used to it. 600ml of skimmed milk contains far less calories than 1 can of coke, and the energy is made up of proteins not simple sugars and chemicals.
