Since the zombie "infection" is spread through virus like ways, why has noone ever come up with a virus or bioweapon that only attacks dead cells? A retrovirus that attacks the transmission virus or simply destroys already dead cells. Seems simple enough (especially in the realm of movies). To make it more adventurous, have it only be effecitve when administered orally meaning you have to get up close and personal with them or feed it to someone you would throw them as a victim like rat poison and watch them drop after eating.

Something to think about, hmmmm?

Retro virus was used in the Resident evil movies, and caused the mutation that created the 'nemesis' in the second movie.

A Retro Virus was also the core foundation of 'I am legend', i know that was supposed to be vampires, but the movie kind of just decided to use CGI to create- well, rubbish really, but the retro virus was a big part of that rubbish.

But I am not talking something set up to rejunvinate old or lifeless cells or to end cancer. I am talking about something specifically design to target dead cells and make them either liquify or explode or something equally final.

Those other examples were of man trying to reach beyond their current capabilities towards extending life and failing. I want something that friggin kills dead shite in a BIG way! I am talking exploding dead people. Walking zombie bombs, zombie slushies, or something equally nasty.

YEAH!

I think that the T-virus would involve reverting to basic instincts and removing some sensory nerves. Probably targeting the spinal cord mainly

Would such a virus be susceptible to cold, Loud noises or other foreign substances?

oh and We all know there's at least one stupid government thinking it, so how many people have a contingency plan for a basic Zombie apocalypse? We're all screwed if their intelligent, but in the case of a Dead rising scenario, what would you do?

And I will own it by this weekend. It appears to be a must read for the serious zombie apocolypse enthusiast.

If you guys haven't read the Zombie Wars by Max Brooks, you should. Stellar work!

This Survival Guide is an addendum to his first book which is a parable for our times and the ineptitude of government when faced with mega-problems. It's a fictional docu-history where people who have lived through the Zombie Wars are interviewed after the fact. Enertaining and scary on so many levels outside of being attacked by a zombie that it has you thinking for days after.

Highly recommended.

Cord, I kind of enjoyed it but some of the flaws/discrepancies were just annoying (like the gas scene).

That said, I was unsatisfied with 28 Days as I felt it was just old stuff being redone (more than a little "Day of the Triffids").

I saw "Sean of the Dead" recently. That I did enjoy!

Butterfly, I have read 'World War Z', but I think I am right in saying that the survival guide came first, and 'Z' is his second book. Doesn't matter though, they both absolutely rock

Trevek, Shaun of the Dead is that rarest of things, a spoof/homage that manages to not only pay respect to its inspirations, but be every bit as good as them in its own right.

28 Days later was indeed derivative, but where it differed was in the success of its execution, (opening scenes in London were the best 'apoclaypse shock' footage since the reveal of the Statue of liberty in Planet of the Apes), and in its bravery. Romero's Dawn of the Dead used the symbolism of zombies in the mall to satirise the weakness of the human condition. In 28 days Later, they take things a step further, and the last 1/3rd of the movie the real monsters are shown to be the uninfected- that was groundbreaking. 28 weeks could have continued that with Robert Carlisle's opening actions, but they moved on to more truly generic material.

I enjoyed 28 Days Later and I enjoyed 28 Weeks Later, though the first was much better as it was an original idea but the second had some good thought it just needed more. I liked the idea of the father abandoning his wife as I think that this could happen in the time of a crisis; "what do you do?"

Shaun of the Dead was awesome; those two are hilarious together. I also enjoyed I am Legend though I had an idea of what was going to happen already from the original movie with Heston.

The thing for me is I always expect more and not many movies including these have really come across as spectacular; entertaining for sure but not spectacular. I have only a handful of movies I would put in that category however I won't list them here as this is a zombie thread. And like zombies this thread seems to never die and rises again.

Cord,

You are probably right. I picked up World War Z on the 30% off shelf at the local bookstore and was very pleased. Did not hear about the Survival Guide except as an advertisement in the back of the soft cover I purchased. The publishing of the SG first and World War Z subsequent to this, I didn't appreciate, just presupposed the other way around. My fault there.

But, nevertheless, highly recommended....as well as a bladed weapon to take out those deathless monstrosities since swords and axes don't run out of bullets....
