I just played Dead Rising for the first time last week. Talk about harcore, nonstop, brutal killing! I love running into a crowd with a knife slashing away. Fun gme for sure. I can stand that stupid lady in the beginning who lets all the zombies in.
Now would a zombie be weaker than a living human and slow or physically adept like in 28 days later?

My theory (high metabolism) would have them more active, similar to the 28Days zombies. I assume the exact strength/speed level would vary somewhat on the decomposition level.

But we were looking for a volunteer, weren't we, Dr. Cord? How fortuitous that Mr. Stormdragon showed up.

But it is only the nerves and crebral cortex that animate the dead- much like applying an external electric current can cause a dead limb to move. For digestion, nutrient absorbtion, thermogenesis etc to be functioning, their would have to be cardiovascular and lung function- technicaly defining the zombie as alive. This works fine if they are in fact living humans suffering from a virus (28 days later), but a 'proper' undead zombie, has no such active physiology. Indeed, according to 'Romero's Law' first established in the late 60's, a zombies main enemy is time. Whilst decomp of the organs begins quickly, the muscle tissue and nervous system survives in tact for longer, allowing basic motor function to occur. inevitably though, when the muscle tissue fails, no matter what basic brain function remains, no limbs will be able to react to the messages sent to it. once decomp renders them unable to move, the threat is over.
on this basis, a dead body, exposed to the air and elements should have a mobility span of no more than 4-6 months. It is doubtful during that period that any increase in brain function would occur, and so the ability to learn (a theory recently considered by my esteemed colleague Dr. Romero), would seem unlikely.

So the systematic decomp. would eliminate possibility for learning right?
Makes sense. So this is sort of like a person with brain damage to the frontal lobe and hypothalamus and whatnot "living" without all major organ function? Doesn't the brain need blood flow and oxyen to survive and therefore the function of the heart? The electric stimulation would just dissapate wouldn't it?

And that is what makes the condition so fascinating- as yet their is no explanation as to how this basic brain function is maintained. All we know is that severing the spinal cord at the neck, or massive trauma to the brain tissue are the only ways found that stop the animation and insticts of the dead.

Research continues.

Very interesting. There MUST be a reason! Granting that the brain or parts of it still function, I can see how severing the spinal column and therefore the brain's connection to the whole body would work, however how would it work to just shoot them in the head? Wouldnt that just make them a little dumber or more crippled?
And why would they only have the most basic instincts if they are frshly killed and turned? Why wouldn't other brain parts function just as effectively?
