Dogs are pack animals, cats are not. That is why dogs reciprocate love and affection on a larger scale. If you don't interacte with the others in your pack (owners), then you will not remain a part of that pack.

I love all animals. The Greyhounds from the tracks are awesome animals. They look so fragile, but I have played with a few who were owned by friends and they are not. My problem is I want to keep feeding them because they always look to me like they should eat more. Our pets say something about us. My dog may as well be a part of the family, we stop for food, the dog gets a hotdog or hamburger to munch on. People think I am strange, but what do I care?

Thats not strange at all. Our dog gets a birthday party, christmas presents, she shares our food (gets her own half of crispy duck if we have a chinese take away), and shares our bed- when I get off night shift, she scooches over into the middle (having been sprawled all over my side) and I get into a toasty warm bed

That isn't strang at all. If you go through the drive through at Tim Horton's, if you have a dog they will give you a tid pit (donut hole) for the dog. I am also finding many stores allowing people to bring their pets into. Pet Smart especially allows you to bring your pets in ... mind you that is a pet supply store and they will groom your pet for you or babysit it while you shop.

Dogs have owners
Cats have staff...
Its a well known fact! If you like being an owner, get a dog If you like looking after an animal get a cat. Hey why not get both!
btw before anyone gets upset with the above, I have a dog [a Doberwoman] and have always had dogs.
and I have 2 cats, both of which came from the SPCA.
I used to breed cats and at one time had over 50 pedigree cats.

I had an Alaskian Malamute for 7 years. His name was Shilo.
I love all animals. I especially love dogs. My breed of choice is a Husky.
There is something with me and animals and children. They appear to be naturally attracted to me. The other day on the subway the owner of this dog temporarily let go of the .leash to get something out of her pocket. As soon as she did the dog walked from where he was and just laid down at my feet. It was cute.
Yesterday at Niagara Falls, ON waiting for the Skylon elevator somebody's child came up from behind me and grabbed onto my hand. It was cute but the mother was embarassed.
It's rather odd.
I can't wait to graduate and move to a bigger place so I can get another pet.

I don't think it much matters what breed of dog you get, they all have their own personalities and respond to how they're treated. I've had everything from mongrel Heinz 57's to purebreds, and have enjoyed each one of them for their particular personalities. Some were more aggresive than others, so I had to keep them on a shorter leash... some were so friendly they would hold the door for a burglar... but each one had it's own distinct personality... and when "picking a puppy", you have no idea of how they'll turn out until you're there... I'd say "pick a puppy", and don't get too attached to it until you see how it is going to respond to your treatment. If it's not friendly, give it to someone who wants a "guard dog" and keep changing until you find one you like... Just don't keep one you're afraid of...

A Commondorock-commondor is one of the best dogs in the world, although I have only had half breed commondors;one mixed with Ausie sheppard, another with bernise mountain dog,I can honestly say that these sheep dogs are awesome. Loyal, fierce, and, well just get one.
