Not unless you have your hands reversed, or you custom ordered your sword with gyakute menuki.

Paul is correct. They usually rest beneath the fingers not the palms. Ie They're on the wrong side to rest under the palms. That does not mean they do not create a more ergonomic grip, just not in the intuitive sense.
