Thanks, Dave. I think I usually feel better about my workouts in retrospect than immediately after, especially when others help put it in pespective.

Toe looks better this morning, most of the swelling has gone away, but stil a bit painful. Walking around the store all day will be an interesting experiment.

Joel, in class when we skip especially with 1000 skips being manditory for black belt testing, I can relate with "toe stories" ... and there isn't a happy ending with a cowboy or astronaut becoming friends.

Just keep at it and what ever bad days you have you will realize are still better then not having one of those days. You are doing great as the hardest thing is doing it. Good job Joel.

hehe, I read an article a few months back that claimed that we have one 'really good' workout every 100 workouts, and one 'legendary-write-to-your-friends' workout every 1000... I'm not sure how scientific that claim was though

I guess it depends on how picky you are.

Arrrg, foot too sore to workout tonight. I'll do some stretching becase I need it, but I was hoping to get in something hard tonight bcause I was well rested by a boring day at work. But walking-make that limping-around all day on a sore foot had not only made my foot worse, but made my opposite hip sore from walking lop-sided.

Ah well. There is tomorrow. (I hope)

Well, it's been 5 full days since I injured my foot and it doesn't feel a lick better. Of course in all 5 days I have spent at least 6 hours on my feet walking around. The jammed toe only provides a slight amount of discomfort, the real pain is coming from where my second toe connects with the ball of my foot. There is much more pain/discomfort originating from that area and I am not sure why.

I tend to get very paranoid with my injuries because I do not have health insurance and tend to think the worst of them. Any visit to a doctor would be very expensive and almost impossible at this point in time. It was almost exactly a year ago when my right knee was swollen from running and I had to ice it and wear a knee brace for a week or so.

I just don't see how I am suppose to heal when I am on my feet all day every day. It's not like I can get a doctor's note. It is very frustrating. I guess I'll just try to keep off of it as much as possible and ice it down when I can.

Any other suggestions? Anybody know of any home amputation kits?

Joel, I've injured many parts of my body with weight lifting and especially martial arts. The feet for sure and have broken toes and stuff. I found that these types of injuries take quite some time to heal because you are on them all of the time. With toes you can't do much with maybe the exception of taping them but my only concern with feet is if you get a hairline fracture or something. If you don't believe that this has happened then I would just give it time.

I would suggest when the day is done to RICE it. Rest it for sure, ice it to bring down any swelling if there is some. Wrap your foot if need be (compression) and elevate it. Also take some Ibuprofen to help with some of the pain and will also aid in the healing process. But if you think that there is something worse going on then certainly see a doctor. Just skoot up here to Canada and I'll say you are my son/brother and well get you checked out.

Not to scare you but I have had some foot injuries take a few months to heal with slight pains for a few weeks afterwards from time to time until they ceased all together. I broke my toe in March training BJJ and this was during warmups. I didn't say anything and just bent it back and continued on though all of the while in pain. This took till May to feel good. Time ... that may be all that you need. Take care.
