Tek
Atemi Ju Jitsu, along with the World Ju Jitsu Federation and Tai Jutsu Association, are all part of the whole Rod Sacharnoski/ Robert Clark crowd. They but the Mc in McDojo.
Its not like me to talk ill of someone, but with my experience with the WJJF and Robert Clark taught me that essentially it is Judo with strikes taken from Kung Fu and Muay Thai, with some Krav stuff thrown in to boot.
These orginizations all operate under the pretense of being "Jiu Jitsu" as a marketing ploy. All their marketing material states that Jiu Jitsu was the art of the Samuari. "Come study Jiu Jitsu with us". Essentially they are inferring they are teaching the fighting techniques and principles of the Samuari without actually saying it out loud.
Here is the WJJF homepage. Basically consists of merchandise and how to franchise:
Robert Clark is the self-proclaimed "soke" of the WJJF. Bob Cowan, of International Atemi Ju Jitsu, use to have links with him I believe. Robert Clark in turn, use to be associated with Rod Sacharnoski. They cooked up something called "Juko JuJitsu", which is a title which lends itself to a pseudo traditional style of Jiu Jitsu. Again, a marketing thing.
The fact of the matter is, there is no evidence to suggest that anyone under the WJJF, IAJJ, Juko Ryu or Tai Jutsu Association (please note this is a UK based off shoot of Juko Ryu, not Bujinkan) has ever studied traditional Ju Jutsu. They are basically strip mining the image of the Samauri to line their pockets.
There is a some more stuff about messers Rod Sacharnoski & Robert Clark on E-Budo. Dodgy people.

Mercen Thankyou and Welcome to Fighting Arts, I first saw Hapkido in the 'Game of Death' with Bruce Lee and Ji Han Jae, I thought the Art was complete as it involves Strikes, takedowns and groundwork. I am a practicing Martial artist in many styles including Muay Thai (Westernized version), Atemi Jujitsu, Tang Soo Do (Mo Duk Kwan) Aikido for 6 months and Wado Ryu. Currently I practice Teach Ashihara Karate, and was looking at Cross training in Hapkido as I believe they would complement each other. Unfortunately I have drawn a blank in my quest to find an instructor in Manchester - Mmmmmmm - No Hapkido Instructors in Manchester UK, I wonder if there's a chance some one might see a opening for moving to manchester and opening a Dojang. many thanks Dobber

I also practiced Muay Thai and Wing Chun except for Hapkido, but this system, in my oppininon, gives the widest opportunity for self development. The problem is that many students give up trainings because it is rather hard. What is your altitude to knifefighting?

I have not looked at knife fighting although I do find it spectacular especial watching silat and other similar styles. The average Joe on the street wouldn't handle a knife the way MA's use them. lol

Agree. But I mean knifefighting as a system, not the part of any MA

I also searched the internet for you but couldn't find any. Perhaps some of your current Martial Arts instructors might know of somebody if they are all 'in the trade', so to speak. How long did it take you to get to 4th gup in Tang Soo Do and did you feel it was worth it? Are tang soo do and Hapkido similiar in their striking? Rageace

I watched the video. Do they teach anything other than jab, cross, and a roundhouse kick? I didn't see anything there that even hinted at HKD or JJ of any kind. (and ripping your hand out of someone else's and countering with a backfist does not a Hapkido technique make. My 3 yr old niece does that with no training whatsoever) Sorry to be so negative, but as a standard practice, you usually try to put your best foot forward in advertising clips. Or at least a good cross section of what you do...or is it just me?

Does anybody know where to find an article titled: If you want to get real, Hapkido's the thing? It looks like it's from a newspaper called Healthy Life and has a picture of Jackie Chan on it. I can only find an image of it (unreadable) but I can't find the actual article anywhere.
