hey guyss.. its been a while and ive sustained this wrist injury thats been bugging me for some time now.. docters cant really help. The problem is the ever since ive sustained this injury it seems like its done some sort of muscle or nerve damage. Theres alot of wrist pain when the wheather is cold and i cannot lift weights or put much pressure on it.. cant even punch pads.. its been a few years now and im stumped. so if theres any nutritional or health advice.. or excercise i can perform that would be of great help.. thanks

What you eat probably won't sort the problem. Have you allowed a sustained period of rest - at least 3 weeks - with a support bandage (the ones that compress the area) over the wrist, hand and forearm? If so, it's time to see a physio, if not, then start taking some time out now. Oh, and you might also want to look into resistance bands, which I understand are very good for rehabilitation.

What are the symptoms other than "it hurts"? Does it stay sore, get sore after exercise, or hurt when you do something special or turn it a certain way? There are 8 bones in the wrist and any one of them can cause a plethora of problems if it's cracked or if the ligaments are torn or displaced.

If it hurts when you're punching a bag, it might be your technique as much as your injury, so a little more information might be helpful. If you can do the wrist exercises from jujutsu and aikido, you probably can heal them, but if they have an acute injury, you might need some help from a surgeon or osetopath.

Give up a little more info...

When you say 'doctors cant help' why do you think we can?
I dont mean to sound crass, but you need to invest in medical advice- an MRI of the area, and from there professional physiotherapy specific to the diagnosis, is the only way to go.

Nutritionaly, a supplement of glucosamine/chondroitin can help with cartilage regeneration, and cod liver oil has a natural anti-inflamatory.

With the problem being ongoing for 'years' these will not be magic cures for a chronic condition. Rest, avoid painfull activities, and see your doctor.

if its like a sprain u can try doing light exercises even if it hurts and increasing your potassium intake might help. I have some ankle problems this year and i noticed that it healed faster when i used it despite the pain

You shouldn't do that - it's just kicking the wrist while it's on the ground. As always with injuries RICE is your best bet: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

You should work it correctly under the guidance of a qualified therapist. just trying to work through the injury will make it worse. Following your mindset is what has lead to this injury to being ongoing for years.

It could be taking a long time to heal probably due to the nature of the injury like a torn ligament or inflammed tendon.

Try to get referred to a specialist and don't take 'no' for an answer.

A friend of mine WAS a fiddle player. She fell on her wrist and it was injured. She was in pain and couldn't play. The GP she went to kept telling her there was nothing wrong.

Now, I'm not a qualified doctor of any sort but when something is hurting like mad for over three months and you can't do something you've been doing for years then I'd say there was something wrong. However, that particular medical moron refused to refer her and kept getting angry and telling her it was nothing.

Finally she got referred and the specialist tapped a load of water from out of her hand. He reckoned if she'd waited any longer she would have been unable to use the hand for months afterwards. As it is it never did heal properly and she ended up selling her fiddles.
