Harlan,

Honestly, NO. What Ol' Will was really good at was looking at the subconcsious reasonings of why people fail. His characters were way too emotional for any Zen like attachment.

Could you imagine a Zen Shakespeare festival...the audience coming into a "happening" like in the '60s, but only to watch a rock garden.

Theatre was basically the English version of 'bread and circus' for the masses. Whoever Shakespeare was, I do think that what is expressed through various monologues reveals an understanding of the heart. And while 'zenners' seem to get wrapped up in the intellectual aspect, real breakthroughs come when a connection with the heart is made.
