I think it's not so much slow, but when a big guys commits to a movement (e.g. hook punch for argument's sake) it is harder for him to change direction of the punch/movement(unless he is more than moderately trained and trains constantly)

Yes, he is faster and that will = more powerful hit; but that is IF (a big IF) he can hit the smaller guy; I'm very small (5ft 1in), and constantly rely on keeping my distance, moving around, and striking only when the opponent makes a mistake or leaves himself open to counter-attack; the smaller guy will always (if equally fast) better agility because he has less mass to move

Think about it; two guys (LG and BG) throwing hook punches; which one will be easier to see (as in see first/early)?? The BG of course; cause his moment arm (biomechanics term) has to rotate more to make contact; even if the LG and BG move at the same speed, the LG's arm will make contact first as he has less distance to travel (for the fist to make contact)

YES, when the hands make contact, the BG's hand will hurt a helluva lot more (assuming that they are travelling the same speed) but fact of the matter is that the BG's hand would have taken longer to get there (note; this 'longer' term I have been using may only be tenths of a second, but still..)

Why would the big guy's movement be seen earlier, I doubt being big influences the telegraphing. Besides LG and BG square off, and punch both at the same time, LG's punch won't land first anyway, since the distance is exactly the same (|<--->| the distance between the stripes is equal, no matter from which stripe you start).
Of course you can train to fight on the inside, and training and strength have a larger influence than size. But face it, larger guys have an advantage.

Yeah, we will, because it is cr4p Obviously how much you 'want' to hurt the other person is important, but you just can't get past basic physics - bigger people have an advantage. If you don't believe me, take some fairy dust and go attack Lennox Lewis.

You can't get passed physics, but you can can't get passed psychology either. Many guys may be big on the outside, but are tiny on the inside. Mental intent is one of the hardest to learn and most esstential elements in combat. Having the greatest strongest punch in the world is useless unless you've got the mindset to use it.

Nope they aren't, it's just a widespread misconception we have to clarify on a daily basis.

its not just how much you want to hurt the enemy its how long you will go for how many hits you will exchange before giving up stuff like that and Lennox Lewis probly has a big heart and his big strong and skilled. i should of said its skill and heart size has never matered to me in a fight and i very rearly fight somone my own size i dono if you have samoans and islanders where your from but there preety big anyway i gess size does mater a bit if your 4ft tall
