But where would a person ever find an effective technique like that in kata? Especially schoolboy kata?

There is a choke in seiunchin that could be executed from behind or the front, like a guillotine. Is it to defend a shoot? Could be interpreted as such.

schoolboy kata,lol.

when a sprawl is executed right it isn't hard to get around behind him quickly.

LOL

Ok, go find a competent wrestler, START from a sprawl and try to get around him quickly, slowly, or however you like.

K,
Lets see if we can agree on something from the start. The best place to learn to defend against the shoot is by working with highly skilled wrestlers. Would you say thats the case?

A wrestler doesn't mind much that his head is in a position to get him choked. They usually put their head right under the armpit area.

Start from a sprawl?? How do you do that?

ok, now they are skilled and fast, but my point is that the range issue wasnt being dealt with (screwed up), ie the distance remained fairly consistant - allowing the shoot to be set up alot of the time.

First of all, both men are looking for offensive opportunities, so they are both looking to work forward (no points for tapping on the chest and jumping backwards).

Second, the clips shown are too brief to show the subtle ways that range is controlled in general.
