i knew you would like that one. Well i didn't read the page but it did say shotokan. I am a lil filmilar with shotokan but i would be the wrong person to ask in what kata they have that movement in. I didn't read the page yet.

I think he might be saying that lowering ones center of gravity could help. meaning maybe if one were to step back then sink into a lowerstance while in contact. I have seen this work but i don't know the level of the person who was shooting in. Don't get me wrong other things were done beside the stepping back and lowering.

Right,thankyou. He "might" have been saying this. It's all open to interpretation and there is no standard to what any move in kata means. Therefore it isn't the kata that is important,but the practice of the moves,whatever they may be.

Sounds reasonable.

Katas were a form of memorization to remind what could be. If you remember the root you can figure out that move you did the other day, for example. move A leads me to move B that leads me to C. If I remebr A and think of the senario again I should be able to get to C. After many attempts and practice I would be able to get to C without going to A, the root.

move "A" was the original move in the kata. move "B" and "C" were the results of a senario.

From the comments you made it shows the extent or rather none extent of your martial art skills.How would you know what a kata is used for? and you contradict your self.

Why do people in karate train open hand knife hand etc although in your mind they cant be used because they cant be trained live?

So in effect you are saying the very techniques devised are useless?

You wear gloves to sparr with ?

Is that becasue you choose not to condition your hands?

Brian a lot of work has been done by excellent karateka
In fact I have a vidio here of top japanese karate ka
performing kata then bunkai rolling about as you put it on the floor because that is what the techniques were intended for.

Ok Brain i see you are more interested in golf than karate Perhaps then give me an explanation as to what Tekki can be used for?

I have the black and white film of early masters using it with bunkia?
