Question for anyone who trains knife, How do you measure your success or failure when knife training? You can't master what you can't measure.

It's really just a matter of did you "survive" or not. Have your parter take a highlighter pen and put on all white close, and have them attack you anyway they want. If you disarm them without being marked on vulnerable points, you "survived", but if you get shredded at the danger zones like the neck, stomack face, arteries, etc., then you "died" and failed. It's very black and white.

We've also used washable markers, and also put lipstick on the edges of the blade, all with white shirts on. It is very obvious who dies and who survived with only minor wounds.

Pretty much any way of showing where you were nailed is good for training.

Same way you measure karate after a day of training. We are not acually defending our lives at either one while practing but by doing so you are creating a condition and response in the event the real thing occurs.
