In short, a punch derives its power from the whole body, ground-up. Take away a stable footing, and all you're doing is shaking your fist in the water. Not exactly replicating the punching movement is it?

Just swim dude, I personally don't swim much but I know that swimming (not just splashing around in the pool) is a very underated exercise, it takes alot of practice to develop proper form but it is one of the best ways to train cardio and some muscular endurance.
Even though you only have two arms you can still block with your forearms.

Yeah but my flying side kick looks as good as it did when I was a young'un.
And I get really good hang time down there too.

Fact #1: I train in the water.

Fact #2: I am as effective as anyone.

Fact #1: I train in the water.

Fact #2: I am as effective as anyone.

As *anyone*? That's a pretty big claim, isn't it? Besides, the argument is not:

Training in water is not useful for MA
I train in water
I am bad at MA

it is:

Training in water is not useful for MA
I train in water
Training in water has no effect on my MA.

You can still be good at MA if you play chess, but the two skills aren't directly related.

I would think that shallow water, would be good for practicing certain throws and other takedowns, without having to worry about "thumping" your partner. I have quite a few memories of my cousin "practicing" on me when we were kids.

Fact #1: I train in the water.

Fact #2: I am as effective as anyone.

Fact 3: By your own admission, training in water has given you no discernable advantage over those you have met that do not do so. This means that if you enjoy it, your time has not been wasted, yet if you were looking purely to improve your performance, there are far more effective ways of spending your time.
