I have just resently discoverd KM and am trying to find a school to train at. The only problem is the closest school is 3 and a half hours away in St louis MO. (I live in Nixa which is about 10-15 min from springfield) I have studied traditional Muay Thai from a family friend from thailand for about 10 years (i'm 18 now) I have bought some of the DVDs from the KM website (intro to KM and the cutting edge) and a book by Imi Sde-Or and Eyal Yanilov. will I beable to get anything out of these? are there any other resources that I might use?

you will, but at the same time, its no replacement for the intencity of proper class training imo.
the book you bought, how to defend against armed assault, is a really good book and has lots of cool stuff in it. That book is by the IKMF, but there is also another book by David Khan (who is IKMA?) which is a really good read.
the truth is irrelevant of school much of the material is the same, and you should get the hang of the techniques, but i would think that you would at least need an extra person to train with?

3 and a half hours is a long long time to go for a class, but at the same time it might be a struggle to learn strictly from books and videos.

good luck though mate

Find someone from the krav Maga school and get together with them on weekends or something once in awhile to do your training.

ok iv'e started training ssesions with my book and videos. and wow it is a little bit of a strugle. my training partner got together and wached the first two defences on the "cutting edge" video. we understand the blocking technique but we are having trouble with the couteratack and secureing the knife hand. when we practice slow we get it perfect but at half or full speed we can only block and push off. any trining tips would be appreciated (or if you are a KM instucter passing through the springfield MO area and would like free a hot meal...) the techniques we are working on are the ICE PICK STAB AND the ORIENTAL UPWARD STAB (control to the inside)
