One thing I can tell you from my experience is, the head butt doesn't always work. I remember butting a guy only to find him staring at me with a slight grim.

I won't go into what he did to me afterwards...that was along time ago

Warm regards, Lok

I do a headbutt when clinching. It's not to cause damage and a knockout so much as it is to off balance the guy and give me superior position. To say that it doesn't hurt though would be a lie.

Doing this headbutt isn't about raring back and then butting forward. It's about keeping your neck straight, your spine in alignment, lowering your level slightly and then ramming forward (somewhat). You are slightly bent forward (ever so slightly) so that you head about the hairline/top of the head makes contact.

This particular technique works VERY well and with good timing, isn't risky to execute.

PS: Of course EVERYTHING is always trained alive xerxes! Even the headbutt.

If I was going to do a headbutt, I think the only place i'd go for is the nose, simply because it has give. We all know every action has an equall an opposit3e reaction, so if I head but in a place with no give (forehead) Im going to get hit just as hard as they are.

Kiwi: The only problem with that is that if your not careful you can actually have their blood all over your face...and if the blood gets in the eyes, it can blind you temporarily and well...yeah you get the drift. I'm not saying that it doesn't work, the trick is...to get away before the blood comes out...which is pretty quick.

LOL! Hey i finally understood where your username comes from.

Also, sometimes when you do give that type of pain to the nose(i'm talking about the headbutt) some people will actually rush their head back(don't know why) as opposed to leaning forward and covering their faces with their hands(my only guess is that they're hands might be occupied so thats why they lean back, but that might not be..)Anyways when this happens, the blood spurt can actually basically just fly at your face. Thus this way its way easier for the blood to get into your eyes, but if your good...it won't.

JKogas,

Hope you realize that was just meant as a little good-natured ribbing, that's all. You often do make good points about the whole "aliveness" thing.

Ah, it's all good. I realized that anyway, though I DID want to mention that the headbutt could be trained (as anything can) alive.

But yes, I can take a ribbing with the best of them. A sense of humor is a good thing.

Practice the motions in slow motion for minutes. Then practice the headbutting motion at regular pace. It is important that you learn how to do it properly in order to hurt someone. Get the tchnique down. Once you have the technique down maybe break boards or bricks with your head.

hang a square sandbag on a wall (make sure it's over a stud) at about face height, and practice hitting it with your head! Make sure you use your forehead, not your face, that is an embarasing trip to the doctors office. But remember to train standing very close to the wall, Because a head but is not a technique that is good to use charging or from far away.
