I've been wondering for a while about the "Buddha Palm." I have an inkling it had to do with qi, but all my Google searches give me video game stuff. So, could you guys just fill me in about this technique?

I don't know about Buddha palm, it may just be someone's name for a palm strike. I have seen a Buddha Fist form, which is an internal form which I am told predates Tiaji Quan. It is slow moving with some explosive movements.

I think theatrical performances of martial arts, no matter what style, are very rough glimpses of what an art has to offer and how it is really used. I saw Kung Fu Hustle and thought it was entertaining, but by no means was it an accurate depiction of how an art is used. (Judging from the smiley, you think the same?)

Doesn`t Hung Gar have a Buddha Palm or Fist (don`t remember) form? I do know however that Mantak Chia teaches a Buddha Palm form (or Empty force sequence), which was designed to train how to move and channel chi. It is a part of his cosmic healing chi kung. I don`t know where it originates from though. Bossman, that`s hilarious.

Getting you guys back ON TOPIC and to REALITY [this is a warning in case you were confused!] maybe Buddha palm was referring to the energy centres in the hands.

I forgot to write before. There`s also a qigong form called 18 Buddha hands, which as everything has its variations. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear (read) Buddha palm is healing something, more that hurting someone. Although, beating up an attacker might heal him from the desire to hurt or rob you or anyone else ever again. In his book Chia says that Buddha Palm is another term for Cosmic Healing Chi Kung. I`m sure that that the name Buddha palm and the energy centers in the hands have some relation, since palms are more often used for healing than other parts of the body. Oh and Fisherman, when did you become so mean? --- Fisherman isn't the mean one, I'm the mean one...!

Maybe this will be of assistance? http://www.chionline.com/qigong/buddha.htmSeems that is more esoteric in nature, not martial.

I'm quite partial to a CRATE of good wine... then I can use it for sword practice afterwards... And please dont call me a "gal". I am a "Lady Knight" or a Weapons Woman, but not a gal. Gal is an abbreviation for gallon... and dont forget to grovel before me, mine peasant!

Gal (alliterative term for girl (or woman)) Although you`re right too lol, it is also short for gallon which I didn`t know. But as you wish, Lady Knight it will be.

Well, if Reiki was a man, it would certainly make a few posts (other members comments) look mighty weird to say the least.

That's a good question. I really have to refer to books about this subject. Buddhas palm is a way where raw energy, or chi, is transmitted through the users palm upon hit or at the users whim. Yes this means that the chi can be thrown or moved outside of the users aura.

I certainly hope that you don't mean that in terms of throwing energy balls etc. We don't want this thread heading down that road.
Energy can be tranferred from person to person, but there must be a point of contact.

energy transferred by physical contact having the result of physical injury or forced movement is called kinetic energy. The reason people use other words and potentials for it is because it sells better....or because they bought into someone else selling it as such and they are just paroting what they've been told. sometimes the chain of misinformation spans several generations, so just because something is old, does not make it true without scrutany.

Hi, Buddha palm is obtained by monks and lonely single guys w/ internet access...its a sticky subject But really, Ba Gua palm strikes can be controlled push or a "shocking", that is designed to transfer strike energy deeper...bone or organ level. Yes this next can be validated, not pushing Jet Li, but I believe that the character he plays in Fearless (who is historically documented and quite dead) gave a demonstration of his abilities per Russian "request", as it went a stadium was full, he requested a large horse brought and used this type of 'Shocking" Palm strike to the side of the horses neck, Horse collapsed dead...he then asked the russians to examine..no hematoma or muscular damage as dissection noted...no vessel damage...OH the spinal bones were pulverized...thats your Buddha palm in action, Ba Gua and Tai Chi prob best bet to learn technique...in 30yrs or so -Karl. Peace.
