Mod Edit - Guys, I've stickied this thread. I think you'll see why!
i was at uni the other day and i stayed back pretty late cause i was doin a lil work, so i walked outside 2 go see a friend of mine and i see some capoeira ppl practising, so after i spoke 2 my friend i watched a bit, and i was itching 2 get a lil action, so i went 2 their instructor told him what school i'm from and asked him 2 challenge one of his students, he agreed. i changed my clothes strectched(no warm up) and was ready 2 go, since i'm pretty small it seemed like if he picked the biggest person there, i'm just 5'7 and weigh like 130, i told him we'd go light since we weren't using any gears, and the fool his my a hard round house 2 my face...so i was like...OK, full contact, i made him my whore it was great..that was my best fight for the whole year so far, maybe the best in my MA life so far, i knocked him out with a spinning hook kick, BUT not b4 he suffered many axes kicks and my personal favs "hook kick, round house" "spinning hook kick into jumping spinning cresent"..it was awesome..and keep in my i'm a jujitsu practitioner(even though we do most styles).. but...i'm not done yet!..after his student caught himself after some mins the instructor...very embarassed off course shouts 2 his student that he'll speak with him after class, so the instructor asks me if i'm ready again..and i was like.."for what.....??"..he wanted 2 fight me..tellin me light contact...so i was like..ok fine...LIGHT contact..would u believe this fool faces me square, standing still and tells me "whenever i'm ready"..so i stopped and looked at him "are u serious man? my sensei/s or instructors don't even do that...give me some movement" so he started the lil dance like thing that they do, and i stuck him with a side kick for being too cocky, right in his forehead, lightly off course..so then he caught himself...trying all these fancy moves 2 impress all the ppl that were watching, cause we drew quite a crowd after i kicked that other guy's ass, all these jumping spinning moves that he wanted 2 try on me, WITH NO GUARDS ON LANDING, he was punished...every time..when he realised it was working, he tried ground techniques that gave me trouble..cause i'm not accustomed 2 sparring them, he kicked my front leg all the time..so there he was...finally makin me really work and sweat, and he kicks my feet from under me..BUT in my style of jujitsu...developed by my local GM, we are taught 2 kick during every dive and roll..so there i was..falling(felt like i was in slow motion) and i see his face, moving in to attack..in mid air, WHILE FALLING he gets a hook kick in his face..and i rolled out...it was incredible...sure i learnt it every day religiously for some months..and it worked for me.. after that..but despite my victory over him as well..it was hard faught..but from that fight...i really realised how far i've come... i told my sensei.who fights me in capoeira ALL the time, cause i'm a pretty good kicker, but my problems is i don't move enough, my leg work is poor but i win alot cause most ppl didn't know that...he wasn't shocked at all, he smiled and said "what'd u expect...to lose?" and we shared a chuckle
so in the following class, my grand master tells the class a story of him receiving a letter telling him that his students thinks that they're the best in the world etc etc, about the crap that happened in UWI (university of the west indies) and he asked who the student was, so i came forward..and he applauded...i showed great sportsmanship, always helped them up after i took them down and never disrespected their floor......
whenever they see me now...respect is given by me..but the fool hardy instructor still thinks he's better than me.. i just really wanted 2 share that cause i think i worked really hard 2 earn that.. thanks for reading all

Wow! Amazing! I'd be afraid that success like that might go to my head - somehow damage my humility - maybe make me start bragging to people. I've seen it do that to other people, sometimes.

That was the ultimate disrespect - walking into someone's class while it was going on and challenging them.
Why are you telling us all this? So that we'll shower you with "oohs" and "ahhs"? If you're not telling us to get our compliments so that we'll say things like "Great going" etc., then why are you telling us?
If I may be so bold as to presume to speak for many of the "old timers" of this forum, I'd say:
"We're NOT impressed".

A request to the mods...
In honor of Dadon's truly impressive tale, I would like to suggest that you add another board to this forum.
You could call it the 'full-of-crap-arrogant-moronic-martial-arts-stories-that-probably-didnt-happen" board.
Dadon, I want to thank you. For a minute there I was starting to think that stupidity was gone from the martial arts world.
Thanks for the reality check.

Oldman - LMAO. This whole thread should probably be stickied somewhere as "How NOT to post in the MA tales and stories forum" or maybe "Most atrociously VTG post in recent memory" or perhaps "DaDon's mental Viagra".

No offence, but you admitted that you are small and trying to prove something. Now you claim you are better than most of the people on the forum... Because you train 4 times a week??? You have to be kidding. For all we know you train for 15min 4 times a week. Yes we should all just admit, We wish we could go around bugging instructors and asking people to fight (which last time I checked is the exact opposite of what martial arts is) Then go onto a forum and expect people to bow to us because we one ONE fight. Woo hoo! Matt

drunk when u made that post or something?.or tryin 2 make a mockery? so much for havin confidence without being cocky, thin line eh? think i crossed?..or am too near?..if u say so..maybe i am,but it seems like everyone with a good story yall think they are "VTG"..and u know what?.as i said b4..i didn't know who i was goin 2 fight, they picked 2 biggest guy...not me, something 2 prove?..as i said..not really, i just wanted 2 test myself.....i see vids of american and european MA practitioners..aside of all ur flips and crap like that..i'm not sayin that ALL of them are like that..but those who claim that they are sooo good..y is it..that those who do all those flips are hardly ever in a ring?? i personally..have never met a good fighter,i really mean NO disrespect...but i really do think our level is higher..i know that..anywhere we go..we win..and win ALOT, we train and work hard for it, so when i win..i can afford 2 say what i went through 2 earn my medals and trophies, speaking of which...remember..i'm just a blue belt..but i've actually started 2 teach a self defence class(seein as i love that) after i was given the "ok" off course..
that may sound weird to alot of yall.

DaDon1,
You've missed the whole point.
Your thread's title should have been "Challenged and Lost". The most important challenge was to your humility. Your contest was with your ego. And your ego whipped your a$$. Obviously your MA skill is fine. It's that ego that need a lot of work. Good luck with it.
PS: All oldman did was show you how little fun it is to read your "cute" writing "style". He nailed it and you didn't like it. When you grow up, maybe punctuation and grammar will come with it.

Wow, I really hope your character changes up a bit before, and if you ever get to black belt, and if you already are one...I feel embarassed, but lets start with small steps first, like learning how to type, thats a good one to begin with. 2nd question, what if you asked for a challenge and the guy was massive and outskilled you? You wouldn't be here talking big, you'd be at home crying over how disrespectful you are, and how much that @$$ kicking really hurt. I just dont understand some people.

oh my....seems like i need 2 speak properly in order 2 get in around here??..oh please...i speak my dialect when i feel, and i type it, no matter what yall think really..and YES i can cover knife attacks...and yes i can cover choke holds etc...i dunno..maybe ur under ranks are [censored] as hell, what can i say...i train hard and i try my best, we're not the every day MA school where gears must be worn 2 spar etc..we rarely use them..only for the kids or for tournaments etc, it'd really be great 2 see some of u ppl, it really would so i can get rid of this VTG crap, i just like hanging around these forums cause i may learn a bit more about the history, i really don't know much about that, i can't say what grand master developed what and so on, not that i NEED 2 know, but it's nice to know

i don't mean 2 spam here..but i just saw joss's post well, my ego?..no, i honestly really don't have 1, but i hate being bullshi#ed by some of the people on these forums, let me be honest, most of my daily instructors are young guys like myself, a few years older maybe, and they are at the top of their game, i've trained under the same people since i joined, i got accustomed 2 their way of teaching and i liked it so i trained with them more than the other senseis, they made me in such a way that i think that i'm never supposed 2 lose BUT when i do, smile and say "thanks" and i do do it, out of respect and good intentions, if anything i'm confident. i don't have ego trips unless ppl get at me with crap, just because i am not a BB doesn't mean i can't be near/on their level(not MY BBs) but other
and as for oldman as his great post...i knew fully well what he was tryin 2 do...raed the first sentence of my post...just once more...just once...

OK. OK. I'm all about tolerance and compromise these days.
Can we maybe, DaDon, strike a compromise??? You give a little, we (collectively) will give a little!
Here is what I suggest. We will put up with the inane, VTG crap. Post as much as you want. Challenges, Death matches, self defense tips from your training program, whatever. We will put up with that. That's what we'll give.
You, in return for being alot to post BS, nonsense and aforemetioned challenge fights and Blue Belt SD tips, must try to construct real sentences (in English) and stop using text speak. That's what you'll give.
Do we have deal?? Can we come to a compromise??? PLEEEEAAAASSSSSEEE??????

Sure. OK. Just for the sake of you all. See Budoc's approach? I love it, and as for MattJ, did you as if I have vids? Don't you think I'd have posted them already?
Anyway to answer Dudley32(this will be pretty long) I learn from Grand Master Francis also the Soke of my school, he is not like the other GMs around. You see, my dojo and one of our amicable dojos, our schools inter-train sometimes, we are considered crazy. Most people know that 2 be in our schools u must be a bit crazy, our GM asks us 2 do some things that most people would what him like if he's crazy, honestly sometimes we do as well .eg. before i joined MA,i got a story which is very true, our GM told one of our sensei to jump off the second floor of a school and break fall, even though my GM was joking about it sensei wasn't and still isn't really accustomed 2 Soke making jokes. He did it. Got up with out a scratch, how many of u will even dare attempt? Believe me i know how insane it sounds. We train very hard most times. I've read about the forums and I see where people post how many time they spend in a class and the average time if I remember correctly was about 2 hours. Once you step on the dojo floor be prepared to stay for 4hrs+. On Saturdays we train for six. We do many different styles most of the styles that my grand has BBs in, he teaches. Right now he has........i think......11 BBs?..not too sure on that, but i know it's over 10, at my rank i learn jujitsu(we are predominantly a JJ school), TKD, kung fu, wu shu, judo and aikido. So to earn your rank in my dojo u MUST cover your rank in ALL the styles you are taught.
ask what you want to know...that'd make it easier for me.

Dadon, How old are you and your instructors? Jumping off 2-story buildings has nothing to do with martial arts. You said your instructors are young, but they can teach all of these styles you mentioned?? Why on earth would you have a six hour class? Why? Are you impressing us with your hard-core take on martial arts? no..... What's your real name? Where are you from? If you are around my area I'd sure like to meet you.

Even if any of this were true it's not exactly the best way to present the account of events if you want to promote intelligent discussion. My guess is that that's not at all why you posted though. Anyhow, entertaining stuff, sounds cool.

Yo DaDoN. I will admit is was a pretty entertaining story, but I can see why your getting a little bit of the obvious feedback. The story itself is entertaining like I said, but when I was reading it, I couldn't help but think: "This guy is coming off as extremely arrogant."
I don't know if it was intentional. Maybe in your haste to tell the story, you weren't paying attention to how you were writing it. But going to a foreign school and just walking up to the teacher in the middle of class and challenging some of his students to a fight does sound a bit arrogant. It would have been more respectful to ask if you could join the class for a bit and then ask later if you could spar some of them near the end of class. You get the same result, but the method is a little bit different. You also make the teacher and the students sound like pretty inept fighters. Maybe they were, but there wasn't any commentary on what they did that was good, except for the teacher's ground attacks. You just told of how you basically owned them all(Big guy, teacher). You may just be extremely good and they were no match for you though. I can't say much either way without seeing with my own eyes.
Lastly, being confident in your ability is great. But there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Here's what I think the difference is.
Example: Someone asks: Can you beat that guy over there?
Arrogance: Yeah I could. I train all the time. There's no way he could beat me.
Confidence: I think that given my extensive training, if I went all out, I think would have a pretty good chance.
I think the biggest difference between confidence and arrogance is the respect issue. Notice in arrogance he doesn't even consider the guy's abilities. In Confidence, he at leasts gives him some respect in basically saying that he's just likely to win. Your saying the same thing, just in slightly different ways. People reading your posts are considering it more arrogant, even if you didn't mean it to come off that way. That's why your getting some less then wonderful responses. Anyway, post those videos if you have them. It's always cool to see some good fighting videos, and from what you say about your dojo, you guys must have some good ones.

I'd like to second the above post, but only as far as the statement that you're arrogant. You have posted on a bulletin board with tales of your own brilliance which you can't be bothered to write in English (which, according to one of your own posts, you can) and expect us to read it and respect you.
I'd like to believe, as does Sorin above, that it might be due to a lack of awareness of your own writing style, but I'm not that charitable. Sorry.

No. I didn't just walk into the man's class and asked for a fight. I was sitting there at first and just observing, and I asked for excuse before i stepped near his floor, took off my shoes and then proceeded, arrogant is the last thing that I am, well...maybe not the last, but it's not high on my list at all. Sorin, looks like u just skimmed through what I typed, i didn't own the teacher at all, yes I beat him, but i said it was hard faught and well earned. i'll post more when i get back home..too busy have a great day ppl!!!!

Wow... I mean wow! This thread has everything and I mean everything! Da Don da Don don don, you da man! We've got spinning kicks, jumping kicks, K.O's, owning, Grand Masters, ultimate fighters in the world, threats and the ultimate VTG trait, a complete sense of reality BAH!!!!! For the record, I don't believe a word you have typed. Furthermore if you're a proud product of a Grand Master I'll pretty much go out on a limb to suggest that its time to start shopping for a new Grand Master Sokey Pokey, coz your current one is obviously feeding you a crock of doggy don da da doo! As for teaching a self defence class, please stop. Myself and lots of like minded martial artists and self defence dudes have already got our work cut out trying to sort out the mess the MA's world is currently in, without you adding to it. Anyway, thats enough from me... back to you big boy! Dude you ROCK!

Dadon
Lets go at this another way...
Think for a moment...and be honest, at least with yourself if not us.
Why did you post this in the first place? What possible reason could you have had for taking the time and energy to write the original post?
There was nothing there to educate the reader.
There was nothing there to challenge the reader.
There was nothing there for most to even identify with.
The only reason I can see (and please correct me if I am wrong) is to try and impress the reader. You wanted the applause; the limelight; the pat on the back.
This is by definition, one of two things...
Its either:
1) arrogance in the extreme, in that you felt we would all bow and humble ourselves before your obvious skill, or:
2) you are so riddle with self esteem issues that you felt the need to present this story so that we would all cheer you, and thereby make you feel better about yourself.
Either way, friend, I think you can see that it didnt work out for the best.
Humility and confidence would have kept you out of this situation in the first place.
And I am with Gav - I am not sure I believe a word of it anyway.
Do give it some thought...

Brian, Even though Dadon is pretty obviously full of BS I would like to point out that the toist monks did regulary jump off high ledges, and some battles that took place would require for both challengers to jump up to an extreme height, and then jump off when the fight is over.
That requirement alone Ussualy keeps the unworthy from fighting.
Let me read you a quote from "the wandering taoist"
"The next phase was making the body light. This skill was an asset not only for the tumbling and jumping of fighting, but for spiritual reasons as well. The taoists believed that a light body was not only unburdened by the blockages, waistes, fat, accumalations, and toxins present in most people's bodies, but was also important for prerequisite for internal alchemy. The luohan teachers interpreted this literally: they threw their students off cliffs. The heights began at six feet and progressed ip to fifteen feet during later training. Mats were placed at the bottom to cushion the fall, but with teachers pushing the students off, the mats were not quick enough for comfort"
hope it helped you
and I am sure the ever great, immortal spirit dadon could of told you the same thing if he wanted too
I fear I am not worthy to be in his presence

If I could pick myself up off the floor from laughing so much. Maybe I'm just unworthy? Anybody else on here feeling unworthy?

McSensei... that's not the point. Since you had to train to be able to jump these incredible heights, it seperated those who trained, and those who didn't.
And I was only using this as one example of how it has been used in the martial arts world.
Since the luohan system was passed down from the buddhists to the taoists then it means that the buddhists at one time practiced the same thing.
of course the ninjas also jumped off high distances, ussualy off the top of trees or buildings.
Again martial artists.
McSensei I think you saying "that's just stupid" is not a good way of expressing your point of view at all.
I mean it is not "stupid" at all. It is just like saying if you want to enter a weight lifting competition, and you can't even bench 120...
it is simply like saying "you have to prove yourself to me, before you can fight me"
anyway the whole point of my post is to show how it has been used in the martial arts world,
not to judge whether it was "stupid" or not.
Some people might say
"Ha, having to throw kicks and punches day after day, having to hurt yourself to make yourself stronger... that's just stupid"

EDIT: and when I said I was "Unworthy of dadon's presence, it was once again a bad joke from me.
I thought that was obvious, I will try to refrain from joking from now on...

Da do ron ron, tell you what mate, here's a story of mine from years ago about how I challenged a local hardnut. I walked into my local pub and there he was, my nemesis. I walked over to him sending him a telepathic message that we were going to fight. He got my warning because he then leaned over to grab a pint glass to use against me, so as I approached him, I speeded into a run. He was sitting in a low chair bending forwards to pick up his pint glass when my foot connected perfectly with his nose and sent him flying with his face a gooey mush. Haha he didn't want to know after that and begged me to leave him alone-wimp! There, don't you feel better having read that.

If you read I said that if you are a "proud" product of your of your Grand Master, then I stand by comments about finding a new grand master. A few of the guys here have actually trained with me and I'd be interested in seeing if they consider it to be watered down MA's. The realms of realistic self defence is something I am a little familiar with and I can tell you for an absolute fact that if your practicing spinning kicks and the likes as practical self defence is gonna get you hurt. When you leave school and meet the real fighters of the world who don't frequent Dojo's, School yards or classrooms, will be eaten you alive.
In all seriousness, I was having a bit of fun with you... but you've got some dangerously misconceived ideas which if your instructors are feeding you this, then you've either misunderstood (badly) or are you practicing a watered down MA.
Any chance of getting your grand master to come online and comment on how you're representing him?
