hey guys, I was wondering when I spar, I never go full power (fast tapes is what I do) and when I connect with a strike, I let off, I dont keep attacking, do you think this will affect in the ring to let off when I dont mean too.?

I've been teaching myself San Shou for about 5 years, and I have personal experience in Taekwondo. Heres the problem I taught myself how to box and you know keep your hands up, duck and cover.

Your question seems so basic from someone with so much experience like you. What I suggest is that you ask your coach/intstructor.

But to make it easy for you. If you hit someone in sparring, you shouldn't just stop, it rubs off into the ring when you do kickboxing/boxing. Your system will automatically take this in as the best way to attack, and thus when you go for the real thing, you'll be doing exactly the same thing like when you trained. If you don't make combination hitting a habit, you won't use it in the ring cuz you wouldn't know how.

It's like when people do grappling, if you let go as soon as someone taps out and keep doing this for years, it will be reflexive. I remember, it was one of the Gracies that had a bar fight and when he put on a lock, the assailant tapped out and that Gracie let go. Can't remember which one.

Anyway, in sparring use everything you got and don't restrain yourself from techniques. You should have learnt that from TKD, San Shou, boxing or kickboxing.

I know it seems like I should not be having this problem but its been a long time since I been in the ring, and I have gone laxed over the years.

Yes, Especially when you've taken a few knocks and are getting tired. You really need to train to go after someone when you land, not back off. Some harder contact would be good too
