Do any of you use the Krav philosophy in your everyday lives? If not what kind of philosophies guide you since Krav lacks a philosophy like those of TMA's.

I dont know if you could call it a philosophy, but the mindset guiding the Krav Maga system could be summarised as cautious aggression. basically that means being careful about what you do, and being aware of your surroundings, and what's going on around you, in order to avoid trouble of anytype, but when you do end up in trouble, be as aggressive and ruthless as possible to get out of the situation intact. So you avoid trouble if at all possible, but if you do get into trouble, attack, attack, attack until the threat has been completely eliminated.

I would, cautiously, say that KM doesn't have a philosophy like a lot of other martial arts, or at least at its roots it doesn't. its philosophy is sort of industrial - provide an easy to learn tool for fit people to become combat ready in the shortest time possible, and allow them to devestate their enemy.

It is more of a practical, easily applied philosophy or more accurately a set of principles than a philosophy like, say Zen.
Most philosophies attached to MA are part of a speritual or religious discipline whereas krav has nothing like that whatsoever.

Stormdragon hit it right on the nail. Wait, shouldn't RangerG be saying this?

Anyway, I believe in KM's philosophy. Never let your guard down, be aware, escape, if unable, attack attack attack, and get home in one piece. Good thing we don't live in a warzone area where this is common life.

Because sometimes a Moderator should keep his nose out of threads and let everyone else discuss things for themselves.

I have been studying Krav Maga for about 6 months. I don't know that there is a philosophy other than, if confronted by an attacker, do whatever it takes to go home safe.

I see it as a practical, situational, self-defense system. It's more of a martial art than some of the "do" systems which encompass a journey toward self realization and enlightenment.

Eliminate the threat! Attack the source!

There is one philisophy in Krav. DON'T GET HURT! Krav Maga was not designed to help you become a better person. In fact we don't care what kind of person you are. We want you to survive an attack by fighting back. So in short our philosophy is simple:

NEVER COMPLY WITH AN AGGRESSOR!

it depends on the situation, if you are in militairy of civilian, it,s very diverend how you react. But it must be quick and fast to over come your enemy....

I have to disagree with the statement about not caring about the type of person you are.

My instructor, who learned from Imi, says he will not teach certain individuals who would abuse the system and not respect it. He learned this from Imi and he always screens and eyeballs prospective new students with an eye towards that philosophy.
