I was very impressed with Micheal and his ability to teach BJJ as a three stripe purple belt. He was very technical and went into great detail about the specific moves and counters we worked on. It didn't seem like two hours and I feel liked I learned alot in that time span. I could see similarities in what he was teaching and what I have learned from my instructor with a wrestling and jujitsu background.
I look forward to what today may bring.

The stone is rolling, back to Arkansas that is. It has been a long good weekend. Brian just pulled out of the driveway headed south and I'm home alone. My wife and daughters are at a dance convention and my son is working. So I'm going to take some time to type.
The day started with church. Brian joined my wife and I at out Adult Community for a class of Reconciliation and forgiveness. It was a timely topic and close to home for all of us.
Brian and I scooted out after class and were home by 11. We spent about an hour and a 1/2 going over kata and bunkai from a goju perspective. It was interesting because Ihad seen his previous days demo and could imagine some of the apps that he might be showing. The thing that struck me the most (Besides his fists which I'll get to later) was how effective and damage inducing the "small" movements could be. What I shared with B during the Kata time was how one move could have multiple functions. Also how our understanding and ability to read Kata is based in part on how you imaging you are being attacked. It come from the Idea when Funkoshi said "when doing kata the attacker must be foremost in your thoughts".
From there Brian and my son and I went out to lunch. When people come to visit and train I always want my son to spend time with the guys. First because my son is cool and I know the guys wll enjoy being with him. Second I want my son to spend time with people I respect. I ate too much. Bad idea before fighting. We then headed home.
Next Brian and I moved onto controlled contact sparring. We started our goose egg collection with that. Goju guys say they don'k kick high. Goju guys are liers. I felt we gave and took well. I struggled as usual keeping my hands up since we don't regularly train punching to the head. The only problem I posed for Brian was that my kicks came from different angles than he was used to. I would try to get him to go after a leg in one direction and change it up.
Next after a few minutes of wheezing on my part we donned our gear in preparation for contact sparring. I asked my wife to come down and take some photos before during and after. She did a great job of not screamimg while I got my a$$ beat. In fact it seemed to me that she may have just enjoyed the job of recording the carnage a wee bit too much. I think she might have spoken with Brian before hand and provided him with with Kryptonite. Maybe it wasn't Kryptonite. Maybe it was the Double Chedder swiss and Bacon burger I had for lunch. We went hard. Even with the headgear my jaw is sore. I called him Quasimodo cause he just kept ringing my bell.
After sparring we went to get the photos developed at a 30Min developing place. While they were being developed I took B on a tour of 5 dojos in a 6 mile radius.
WTF TKD
Ryo bu kai
Akido
Judo/ju jitsu
Chung do Kwan
and Crawfords American ju jitsu.

My friend David Debella happened to be in working on the expansion of his dojo. That was a nice suprise. We picked up the photos and came home. Did I say Photos...well yes I did. I'll get to that soon.

I would just like to add a sincere thank you to everyone involved. BrianS, Cxt,Michael Blake, Michael Graeber, Master Tom Duncan and the students of Duncans Karate, The Real Life community of Hillrest Covenant Church and most of all my gracious ad loving wife Julie.
