Hi all your TKDer's. One common approach all TKDer's in fact all martial arts have is pre-arranged forms for either self defense or fighting. So I figured what a great idea for each of us to post 1 step sparring exercise. Just ONE PER POST, but feel free to post as many as you like. To keep it simple, we will keep this as a 2 person exercise. One person plays the attacker and the other person plays the defender who then counters with his own attack.

(To keep it simple we will limit the attacks to a right reverse punch or a rear right leg kick.)

Both men stand in front of each other, the attacker in left forward stance with a left down block waiting at the ready.

The defender stands in a chumbi or ready position.

To begin the defender Kihaps (spirit shout)

Attacker - lunges forward attacking with a right hand mid section punch. (Aiming towards center of the chest)

Defender - steps back with right leg into a left front stance, does and outside block with left arm. Followed by a right punch to the attacker’s mid-section, then a left punch into the mid-section, and finishes with a right leg front kick into the attacker’s groin.

I'm afraid we don't use pre-arranged one-step: it is all free-style. However, one of my favourite ways of dealing with a high punch is:

1) Attacker steps forward, high punch.
2) Defender steps back and performs an inward block with the inner forearm.
3) Defender then counters with a side kick to the lead knee of his opponent.
4) Defender finishes by grabbing the opponent's back or shoulder and performing a knee turning kick to the opponent's solar plexus or head.

Hey Tek, I think by posting this I broke your rules so forgive me. I had posted this prior and figured I just dump it all in together as one. You have already read it once and commented on it. Others may have missed it.

Quote:

A. There is always an Attacker and a Defender.
B. The Attacker will first attack with the right and then the left and then the two switch roles.
C. To Start the Attacker ki-ups and goes into a low section block.
D. When the Defender is ready they will ki-up.
C. The Attacker will step in and punch towards the Defender's jaw/chin.

Understand that the more advanced you are the more aggressive you are to be and are to actually connect, plus the faster and more natural it looks.

1. Defender steps off to the side blocking the punch with a knife hand block with their left and a right hand punch to the Attacker's jaw.

2. Defender steps off to the side and uses a knife hand block for the punch and uses a knife hand strike with their right hand to the neck/collar bone. They then grab and pull the Attacker’s arm forward and deliver an right elbow strike to the Attacker’s chin/jaw

3. Defender steps off to the side and uses a knife hand block for the punch and punches to the attackers jaw with their right hand. Grabbing hold of the Attacker's arm with their left hand the Defender will step to make their body as one and sweep the attackers legs. The Attacker will use one arm falling techniques and slap the ground with their free arm. Meantime the Defender turns the arm and places the elbow against their knee to break it and punches to the Attacker’s head area … Attacker should get arm up to defend this attack.

4. Defender’s right leg steps back into an L-stance and knife hand blocks with their left hand. They then grab and pull the attacker’s arm and step in with a right elbow strike to the Attacker’s ribs/kidney area.

5. Defender steps off to the side slightly while bringing their left leg in so that it jams the attacker’s right leg while at the same time blocking the punch with a left handed knife hand strike and a right handed knife hand strike to their neck/collar bone. This is immediately followed up with the left hand sliding up to their collar and the right hand grabbing hold of the other collar and driving your right knee into their groin. This is immediately followed by pulling the Attacker forward so that the must use front falling techniques to break their fall (must turn head to the side so as not to smash nose into the floor). This is then followed by a downward right elbow strike to the spine/upper middle back.

6. Defender’s left leg steps back into an L-stance and a knife hand blocks with their right hand. They then grab the arm with first the right and then stepping in with the left and grabbing on as if like a baseball bat and turning the arm over so the elbow is facing down. They then step under the arm and while coming up while pulling the arm down so as to break the elbow.

7. Defender steps off and then jams in (to knock off balance) with a left handed knife hand block to the punch and a right handed knife hand strike to the neck/collar bone while their left leg goes to the outside of the attacker’s right leg. To further put them off balance they grab the arm and pull them forward with their left hand and at the same time sweep their legs out from under them with their right arm. Attacker has to use one arm falling techniques again here. The Defender turns the arm so the elbow is against the knee for a break and downward knife hand strikes the attacker’s throat. The Attacker should get an arm up for a guard.

8. Defender steps back with their left foot into an L-stance and blocks with a right-handed knife hand block. Grabbing hold of the arm the defender steps in to make the bodies as one and sweeps the Attacker’s legs out while striking the attackers back to ensure that they must fall forward. The Attacker must use front falling skills with one arm and also turn head to the side so as not to smash nose into floor. Once on ground the defender locks the arm onto back and places weight down so that it can’t move and makes it “very” uncomfortable to the Attacker. Then the Defender slides his free hand up over the head to either pull the hair or insert fingers into eyes sockets and pull back until the attackers submits by tapping out.

9. This one may be a little hazy as I’ve seen it numerous of times and have even done it to help out black belts but is not one I do at my current level like the others. Defender shoots to the side and kicks the Attacker’s rib and then follows up with double punches. This is followed up by a downward heel strike to the back of the attacker’s knee which knocks them off balance and the Attacker must use their backward falling techniques. The Defender then uses a downward heel strike to the Attacker’s head.

Then at black belt levels there are 20 more plus ones done with ropes, knives, batons, belts, etc. that are done within a square with 4 Attackers in each corner.

Attacker comes in with lead right middle punch.

Defender steps inside into sitting/horse stance executing right outer forearm block to punching hand.

Defender executes right elbow strike to solar plexus while in same stance.

Defender finishes by grabbing head and performing knee strike to face (could use either left or right knee).

Uke punches, parry down ukes hand with your left, step forward and ridge hand ukes face with your right hand.

Uke punches, duck under punch parry away ukes punch with your left, set up for standing choke with your right arm......night night.

Block/grap inside with your left, step forward and strike uke face with your right forearm/elbow strike, with your right arm wrap it around your ukes neck for reverse crank. He should be a reverse headlock, he is facing you. Crank it up until you here him tap out. Make sure your still holding his right hand so you don't get clocked while trying to crank their neck.

Ooopps...that was three

(For arguments sake)

Attacker throws right round kick.

Defender steps in and traps kicking leg with left arm.

Defender grabs attackers right shoulder with right hand and sweeps balance leg with their right foot.

Defender finishes either with a front snap kick to the groin or face.

I'm sorry, but this has got to be the worst prearranged fake, never gonna happen attack ever. I really hate one steps for this.

uke throws a haymaker
defender meets attacking arm with double shuto block in a C motion coming with the punch (focusing strike/block on pressure points of the forearm/bicep)
defender immediately attacks the carotid artery with same shuto motion going forward
good night uke

Thanks, Brian. I like that one better too.

How about this.

Starting close up in natural stance, left legs forward. The attacker starts pushing the defender's chest with his lead hand, possible rear hand strike imminent.

The defender shoots his left hand into the attacker's face, more of a push than a strike, INSIDE attacker's left arm. He simultaneously raises his right hand OUTSIDE attacker's arm as if to chamber for a low outer forearm block, using the movement to sweep the attacker's arm aside so that it goes over the defender's left shoulder. From there, the defender pushes forward and down across the attacker's face/throat/upper chest with the elbow/forearm while pulling the arm or clothes with the other hand. This is accompanied by a step forward and past the attacker's left side into long front stance.

This is done in 2 movements: (1) simultaneous face-push/arm-redirection (2)simultaneous pull/sweep-down/step.

This should take the attacker down backwards. If he doesn't go down, you step through again and punch/push with your left hand against his upturned jaw.

It's a basic down-block/front-punch sequence.

That's a good combat application sjon!

Uke grabs same side wrist and preps to throw a punch.
Defender pulls wrist inward and traps it against his side then simultaneously with the other arm delivers an upward forearm strike to the neck/throat. As uke falls backward he is punched in the solarplexis,ya know, just to make sure, lol.

This is a basic 'high block' with punch sequence. Both hands, the chamber and the block, have combat applications.

1) Attacker enters with high reverse punch (ogul chumok chirugui).

2) Defender defends hand with same side middle block circulating his hand from the inside. After changing the direction of the incoming fist, the attacker's hand is grabbed.

3) Defender counter-attack with an eye jab while still holding attacker's hand.

4) With the opponent blind, defender grabs the attacker's dobok with the same hand of the eye jab, passes his rear leg behind the attacker's supporting leg and throw him to the ground never letting go the attacker's arm.

5) Defender presses with his knee on the attacker's ribs fixing in him on the ground and also places the other leg over the attacker's neck while getting on the floor (the arm stays between the defender's legs).

6) The defender does a ju-jitsu basic armlock by rising the waist while the attacker's arm is fixed.

NOTE: in this situation if the attacker doesn't cooperate, break his arm rising the waist just a little more beyond the previous fix.
