Yes I have actually heard these....
"How are you going to use a boxing stance in the street, only karate would work"
WHAT!!!!!
"My dad could kick your dads ass!!!!!"
"A few years of training in Muay Thai won't put you anywheres near my 20 years in karate/kung fu/ whatever."
Ok man it's not the time you've been doing the art, it's how practical it is and what you can do with what you've learned. I know I'm gonna get heat for this.... but there's a reason kung fu & karate fighters don't hold up in the streets or UFC.
Sorry it's just becoming obselete, western martial arts have advanced the world a lot and times are just changing.
"I am a blackbelt"
Ok.... and I am a dentist. That dosen't mean anything, it's just what you can do with what you know. Results are all that count.... blackbelt does not = results.
Having a "blackbelt" means the belt around your waist is black.... THAT'S IT.

"You should see how good this guy is at my dojo he can blah blah blah blah" Then you find out they spar nobody but the people in their own style/school. I wish there were that many good MA but they are few and far between.

Annoying saying, you ask? {cracks his knuckles} * Always give 110%. * Your mileage may vary. * IMVHO (<--as oppossed to...??) * "My Sensei/Hanshi/Soke says...." * English posts/articles/websites littered with kanji (漢字) symbols meant to impress and give a 'look and feel' of being informed. 阿呆 (=aho: see 'moron') * 'Login Error: The username you are attempting to sign-in as has been banned.' [edit] what happened to the ability to show kanji characters? I'm able to do this in 'other' forums...

First of all, who told you that "kung fu and karate fighters" don't hold up in "the streets". It's ironic because I started this thread annoyed with [x] style zealots saying that another style doesn't work "in the street". Second of all, there IS a reason why "kung-fu and karate fighters" don't do well in the UFC, and it DEFINITELY isn't because the styles are becoming obselete. For the sake of keeping my thread open, I'll wait for another time, another day to say why.

Send me some mail on the forum so we can talk in private then.
Many people say that kung-fu isn't as appliable in the streets, but I personally am the one determining that statement for myself. I personally think chinese & japanese arts are just eventually going to die out (except some moves and techniques).
That's just me.

That's quite an annoying saying I've heard more than once.

people who 'jitsu' instead of 'jutsu'. in japanese jutsu means 'way', just as 'do' does. jitsu means something entirely different.

I'm not going to private message you because it's already apparent that you are closed minded. What style have you seriously trained in that leads you to believe their techniques won't work "on the street"? I think a big problem with those arts is not that they are becoming obselete, but alot of instructors tend not to teach bunkai until black belt status (at least in my area, and I've checked out alot of schools). So what you have is a bunch of students waiting at least 4 years to get their black belts while learning point sparring to pass the time before they learn what most of the techniques in kata actually means. I wasted 3 years getting a black belt in krotty (I should've known, it was taught one day a week out of an elementary school gym. But hey, I was like 9) and really thought that roundhouse kick to the head was the ultimate way to end a fight. Wrong I was. So what in karate and kung-fu do you find is "obselete"?

Not attempting to start any wars here, but these I have heard more than once and are quite annoying: Quote:

Also almost any phrase involving the word "ninja" or "deadly". ex. "This technique I'm showing you was a deadly technique used by ninjas." or "I know ninja magic!"
"Ninjas are still alive and walking among us!" No they are gone and only live on in movies and video games (which portray them stereotypically I might add), get over it.
