What's some annoying things that martial artists tend to say? For example, a major pet peeve of mine is "on the street". Ex: "Spinning kicks won't work on the street." The people that say that must believe that everyone are actually "super deadly ninjas" or something. Any others?

The most annoying saying?

Quote:

[Insert Art name here] Sucks!

I hate when people say that. Ok if they had actually mastered the art, put down 20 years of training into it, and said it, I may believe but some idiot who read about it for 5 minutes and comes with these claims, I just shake my head, reach for my revolver, point at my head and wanna pull the trigger.

[That which does not kill you, makes you stronger]

Unless you got two broken arms, a dislocated shoulder, a permanent damage to you spinal cords and parkinson disease.

Quote:

There is no try, only to do or not do

What if I do and fail, and repeat? Isn't that called trying?

Quote:

[Insert founder name] made this system so that. . .

Quote:

[Insert founder name] didn't like [insert area of technique] due to. . .

Well, couldn't you fix these problems and stop blaming the founder? Jeese, he's either a. dead, b. gone, c. not even in your life-span.

Quote:

We do not focus in this area as statistics shows [Inser bunch of bullshido]

Stop blaming stuff on paper which some analyst who doesn't have MA experience wrote. Have you personal experience? I mean, if you can't punch, then why fight at all?

Quote:

knives are easy to defend

Unless you get stabbed. . .

Ground fighting is not good. Standup is better!

That's until you get grounded by a grappler and you get your arm broken.

I wonder where they get all this stupid stuff from. . .
It gives MA a bad name, when you consider it!

" The reason we don't compete in UFC is because our techniques are too deadly"

So everytime you fight you have to kill, huh?

"But would it work against a street fighter?"

Why do you think all streetfighters have never trained MA?

" It wouldn't work on the streets"

OK, I'll use it in the pub, in a phone box, on a flight of stairs, on the battle field...

"Bruce was the greatest warrior of all time"

oh god, quick... pass the bucket...

Agreed! My thinking is that you're entitled to say that if and only if you challenge the world grandmaster of the style in question to a deathmatch of some kind and win. If you can beat Chen Xiaowang in a fight, then I'll listen to you when you say tai chi sucks.

Some others:
- There are no shortcuts
- Most fights I've seen end on the ground
Yeah, and most fights I've seen have been between sloppy drunkards without knowledge of martial arts.
- For practical self defense, you need an art with emphasis on groundfighting.
- <<A certain style or technique>> is outdated.
Two people getting in a fight is the same now as it ever was. Punching someone in the face now is no different from punching someone in the face in feudal Japan.
- <<Capoeira/ acrobatics/ spinning or flying kicks>> are impractical.
Yes, but they're freakin' cool. Martial art should not be the same as self-defense
