Hi Raul

My section will include;

Movement technique - both mechanics and in relationship to opponents.

Distance and Timing - Application of basic techniques (As you know with me, basic techniques can mean different things.) at differing distances and timings and how this relates from sparring to Self Defence.

Kata Application. - Thought I'd take a look at some parts of Bassai Dai.

95% of the work will be done in pairs. Stand up only. (I know they don't have mats at Sal's dojo and a lot of rolling on a wood floor hurts like hell.)

Just some initial thoughts.

I'm anticipating 1 - 1 1/2 hours.

(My session will involve sparring. I'm assuming light contact as I want to work on technique rather than overpowering each other. If we need to apply power, I'd use bags/mitts

Thanks John, me likes it... ya know what... how about the leaders do what JohnL just did and give the group a breakdown of what you are planning on working on.

My two cents....also some people feel "uncomfortable" sparring with outsiders/different styles than what their used to and so on. Many people have never sparred anyone outside of their own dojo and are at a comfort level with those particular people. I'm with Raul if you don't want to spar fine and if you want to that good too. I'm sure there will be some guys that want to roll and do some stand up as well. I for one have a difficult time when I'm mounted and being pounded, if the guy is good I just can't seem to bump him off or roll him. I know my weaknesses and would like to work on some of those areas.

John & Raul...Probably Ranger and I will do an hour of self defense. Techniques will include Krav Magna, I will let Ranger go more into detail about that as he posts. Various Hapkido/jujitsu wrist locks and throws from shoulder, elbow, wrist and lapel graps. Knife assaults from lunge, slash and over head strike etc.. Again we will probably demonstrate and have everyone pair up, practice each technique and answer questions. If we only have an hour were going to have to break it down to about ten minutes per technique. We will critique all this as we get closer to our day. Can't wait to learn some KM!!!!

You and I both my friend...this is an area I wish to work on as well...

As far as sparing goes...being out of your comfort zone is not a bad thing.. I'm sure that guy who is about to attack and rob you and your better half is not in your comfort zone either..

All that said...I do wish to avoid JohnL's wrist locks...searing agony is not one of my hobbies...

Either way I don't care what I learn. Yall feel free to abuse a 300 pound lug. I haven't sparred in years and wouldn't mind going at it, but if yall think I am too rusty, then I can watch yall. I am really looking forward to being in the same room with all this knowledge and skill..

EVERYONE SPARS. NO ONE GETS OUT ALIVE.

OK, kidding.

I was just thinking that we could reserve a bit of time for sparring and/or resistance drills for those that wish to. I will defer to majority rule at that time, however. Or not.

The sparring I mentioned in my post will need cooperation from both if it's going to work in the way it should. There won't be a problem. I've done some of this work with people before and it works well.

It'll be tightly controlled and I never have a porblem.

Raul and others who have worked with me before understand the level of contact I tend to work with.

Everyone goes to work on Monday.
