#216141 - 12/20/05 09:09 PM What is the quickest way to lose weight.....

when you can't run outside? I'm not the healthiest eater, but being 17, and running a few times a week in the summer, I managed to easily keep the fat off. However, I noticed I'm started to get a gut now.
I haven't been running, mostly because I live on the coast in the north east, and well, it's about 20 degrees, and it feels a lot colder with a sea breeze.
I have limited space inside. Does anyone have any ideas for a good cardio inside? Should I just stick with heavy bag training, maybe some jogging in place, jumping jacks, that kind of stuff?
Or would it be best just to brave out the cold? I just don't want to run the risk of getting sick. Guess it's not too big of a deal, I don't really take my shirt off in the winter, and I still manage to fit into 28 inch waist jeans, but still, what is the best indoor limited space cardio?

I would say go brave the cold. However if you dont want to, then sure they are many ways to have a good cardio program inside. Running is a great foundation to cardio, but you dont have to do it, especially if its only 20f outside.

Get a skipping rope. Really great for cardio. Doing 3 minute rounds of boxing skips will help build some serious cardio.

Tabata Inteval training (Tabata protocol = 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest, 8 times.) is a really really great way to train both aerobic and anerobic condtioning. You can do Tabata punch or kick training on your heavy bag. Just punch/kick all out for 20 seconds followed by a 10 second rest, repeat 8+ times. If you think its easy, your in for a suprise.

If you can find a hall or some other large indoor area, then you can do indoor inteval sprints.

Here in Australia, I've been running in 37 degrees Celsius. I think I'd rather the cold....

Perhaps you could also focus on your diet if you want to lose weight. Diet is very important, if you dont eat properly, all the training you do wont be 100% effective.

Remove all Processed white sugars and flours from your diet. Cut down on the grains if you want to lose weight, and up the fruit and veg intake.

Take it easy and good luck.

Clean up your diet. At 17 the only problem with poor eating will be how you look, keep the poor eating going into your 30's and your health will suffer, 28 inch waist or not.

Watch Rocky's 1 and 4, then wrap up, put on a hat, and get your butt out of the door and get running.
If you dont fancy that, then skip and do bag work, then go catch your cold/flu in the mall doing your christmas shopping instead

*Cord limps off on his walking frame mumbling about kids today- 'its too cold to run?! whats with this generation?!'*

Hey now Cord I definetly remember another post here about how it's not good to run in the cold. Right now it's 12 degrees. I'll stick to the indoor stuff that was recommended for now. And I don't really eat that horrible, Total Protein cereal in the morning with a glass of orange juice, Tuna sandwhich for lunch, and usually a big healthy meal at night. Of course there's the bowl of ice cream and cookies spread through the day, but I'll cut those out one of these days.

Since you're 17, and may not have driven much, I'd just like to add a word of warning: watch out running in the street. The roads are narrower, due to the snow banks, and icy and darker in the winter...and cars can't stop as fast.

And aren't you asthmatic? Dry, cold air can aggravate that condition...so don't forget your aspirator.

I really would like to run in the winter but the ways are so damned slippy here it is unsafe enough to walk... believe me.

Get some better shoes if its too slippery. Of just run in the snow. The snow will make it harder to run in. Especially if its soft snow.

Weider have been doing amino acid enhanced breakfast cereals and pancake mixes for years (since around '91). Makes me chuckle because if you want more protein with your breakfast, just have scrambled egg on toast, or have a large glass of low fat milk with your bowl of cereal. Either way is far cheaper than amino enhanced 'sports cereal'

I have had total's protien cereal. Not sure how they enhance the proteing, becuase there is not much to the cereal. But on the box is displays added protien. I think you get about 15g per serving. Opps, it is Kellogg's special K cereal with added protein.
