Not an aikido practicioner, but thinking about it.
Researching schools, found several fairly close.

My question at this point is this-What is aikikai and how does it differ from Hombu aikido?

Sorry if this has been asked before-if so just supply link, not to lazy to click on it-just to lazy to search first

To the best of my knowledge, Aikikai is the founding organization set up by Kisshomaru Ueshiba (Morihei's son), which is now currently headed by Moriteru Ueshiba (Kisshomaru's son, Morihei's grandson).

Organizations which claim aikikai affiliation are related to Aikido Honbu (headquarters).

I think it's used interchangeably, but I have known to be wrong.

Ok, sounds reasonable.
Now here is another-how does aikikai or hombu differ from yoshinkan, tomiki ryu?

Answer in 500 words or more, double spaced, site references and include a bibliography-spelling and punctuation count!

I'm guessing you want a dissertation on the stylistic differences between the organizations you've mentioned?

Here's a chance for all you aikido lurkers out there to plug your organization....

Not sure myself on the differences as I haven't practiced any that you have mentioned specifically. I have seen a little of the yoshian. This was the my senseis, sensei's nephew from Canada. Not sure how long he had been practicing, but he had a real problem with Randori with even some of our lowest white belts. He seemed to have a slightly skewed idea of uke's roll and how uke was to react. Please understand I am not knocking the style, this was one of the few live demonstrations I had seen of it.

Our school practices shin shin toitsu, aikiki, and inyo or combat aikido. The last style is more jitsu in style than aikido.

Neko,

Rupert Atkinson isn't normally on here, so you may wish to contact him personally for some insight. Rupert has trained in several styles of aikido, particularly the main ones you've listed. He is extremely knowledgeable and a gentleman.

He has also written a book called "Discovering Aikido" which may be helpful. In any case, I'm sure he won't mind if you contacted him.

Here's his web address:
http://discovering-aikido.com

All the best.
