The members, that is. I found a site where we can build an interactive map of where everyone is. Check it out and put yourself on there. Let's see who's where! http://www.frappr.com/fightingarts

I think I'm computer challenged too.
I created an account, then added myself to the FA list, but how do I place my sign on the map?

I see where the problem is...attention to detail see where it says "optional" to create an account...? you don't need to create an account.

From the site: Quote:
To add a shoutout, just enter your name, zipcode, and shoutout above. Your name will only appear once on the map, but you can enter multiple shoutouts the same way

Great idea Matt! That thing is awesome! Seems belnick is even farther north than I am. Hey belnick is it freezing down there too? And JoelM lives in Athens!!!!!!!!! I hope he doesn't anger the gods, as he lives right next to them Climbed Mt. Olympus yet?

Really? I could do it for you. *checks Nikki's IP address* I'm just kidding. I do understand about the anonymity and age issues. But if you wanted to, you could place yourself in a city nearby to be safe. On a map of the entire world, placing yourself 50 miles away doesn't affect it that much. Your choice though, no pressure.

Great find MattJ! Rideonlythelabel, you ended up on the map. You live in Montreal, n'est-ce pas? (Okay, that's about as French as I'm going to get...) I included a pic of me at La Ronde trying to be funny with a jacket over my head. I can't believe I don't have a decent Karate photo of myself. I hang my head in shame.

I just did the Satellite image on that, and that is SCARY!! I don't remember putting a complete address, but zoomed all the way up, my pin is 2 house off from where my REAL HOUSE IS!! The place to the left with the baseball diamonds is my old elementary school... Anyone else find that a little scary? I mean all I did was give a zip code and BAM! They got my house practically pinpointed.....

*Shudders*
That is scary! Since I don't live in the States, I didn't put in a zip code (or a postal code for that matter, just my city) and it ALMOST got me! I'd love to say where I really live, to show the difference (although I can get it down to a T) but I don't know if that's a good idea on a public forum. It was pretty freaky though! I even browsed around and managed to find my university and the malls I usually go to. Sweet!!

If you register with it you can actually move the pin to where you live(or don't live) for accuracy. Not sure if you can do it without signing up.

I just realized that you can look at the satellite pictures and zoom in. My satellite picture is completely OFF! I can't recognize anything. There should be a small but obvious landmark right by my house. It looks alot like the Atlantic Ocean . Also there should be some canals where there are streets. Satellite ain't all it's cracked up to be Page

Heh heh. My satellite picture won't really zoom in that close to my particular block or anything, but it does have the area right.

It zooms into the center of the area code...the larger your area code, the more off it may be. also, the satelite pictures are taken sometimes years ago. From the looks of this areas pic...looks like it was about 5 years ago. (look at large construction areas for clues)

Yeah, a lot of cool things are on the internet. I can look at my cousin's house from a satellite on GoogleEarth. Hey look his pool's not covered....

I know people hate to read back a few posts, so I'll mention again...high res (meaning zoomed) satelite pictures are not 'live' or even up to date.

Got myself in.
The photo is part of a series taken more than a quarter century ago intended for a book on our system.
I even had a front cover design done and wrote out (by hand, no computers then) a draft of the introductory chapter, but work got in the way and the project stopped there. When I look at the old photos and the manuscript, I cannot help but feel disappointed with myself. I've let my Sifu down.
*sigh*

I think of "peace" symbols ... a cloud of narcotic smoke ... Cheech and Chong ... dude ... and yup, the Boogie Van with the mural on the side with tail pipes and large back tires ... you know the kind I remember from the old Hot Rod Magazines and the T-Shirts. Man I loved that stuff in the 70's.

Couldn't we put a link to this at the top of the Martial Arts Talk forum? It would make sense as I have been here for a few years and never seen it. Of course, maybe I am blind and it has been there all along...note to self, pay attention to things that do not seem important.

I never go to things like that Ed, I always go to the "Who's Online" page and see what everyone is looking at, that way I can see the interesting posts. I got to the map thread by following a link from another thread. http://www.fightingarts.com/ubbthreads/s...ue#Post15852757

OK I'm on the map. I had to put in my ZIP code otherwise it showed me living out in the middle of the bay. The pin is off by about 2 miles but that's ok.

Hey, what you should do is use the code to embed the map on this site, that way people will not have to go to Frappr to see it. You could have a special map page.It may add extra "stickyness" to the forum.

I now have high speed and I still can't get that map to come up. I even cut and pasted the Frappr site to Safari and still nothing.

I got a response from Fraper. Trey keep wanting to know when I graduated from school. That is not what I want to ask, which is, where is the rest of the original Fighting Arts Forum map?
I finally was able to enter it, but most of it no longer exists.

Me, too. But... I can get New England and Canada from Hudson Bay East. On a smaller scale I can get the US west of the Mississippi I can also get most of Europe. Everything else is "Image Unavailable". And this is after a trip to the Mac shop.
