Except in movies there isn't a Drunken system.

Rather a number of Chinese system have forms using drunken technique. They are normally considered among the most advanced forms in those systems and take a great deal of study to get to the point of learning them.

Modern Chinese WuShu has some dramatic acrobatic/drunken styles, they rely in incredible full body falling techniques, head springs (using the head and neck instead of he hands and arms), etc. and are brutal on the body. If you don't start at a very, very, very young age it's likely you'll never condition yourself to do those falls, etc. And in turn by your mid 20's your body can rarely sustain those techniques any longer (ever year of 40 year old chapmion gymnasts either?).

Of course if you're referring to drunken by consuming a great quantity of alcohol and then trying to learn to fight, any system might be corrupted that way.

On the other hand in the modern world, perhaps there is somebody teaching drunken fist. If so expect to fall a great deal. you might find out if your bones live up to your handle.

Yes, Victor is right. Any systems that do teach the drunken style forms usually don't begin them until you are advanced level, as the physical demands are extremely rigorous. There is lots of falling, drop kicks and acrobatics, also a great deal of flexibility required, bending backwards etc.

I know some Choy Li Fut schools teach drunken forms at an advanced level, so you might want to look for one of those.

You won't find many authentic schools in the US. If you can learn Eight Drunken Immortals (an internal Taoist drunken form), then thats what I would study. But only if fighting is taught, which is not likely around the US or Tourist spots.

The only Eight Drunken Immortal School I have ever heard of is the Green Dragon Studio outside of Akron ohio, I think Stow Ohio. The Sifu is Sifu John Allan, and I know he teaches that style of Kung Fu, again, as an advanced levels. Green Dragon sells videos of the styles they teach.

I would think that Chicago would have a good assortment of Kung Fu Schools since they have the largest Chinatown outside of California and New York.

Though it is a full complete system, i sometime find it hard to believe that it not a part of many systems but not a whole system to itself. I mean how many times can you fool someone to believing you are drunk and all this is happening by chance. Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice shame on Me.

I don't think the purpose of zui-quan is to fool the opponent into believing that you're actually drunk, the drunken-like motion are just a way to achieve great impredictability because of their erratic and seemingly random nature...

The process definitely works. For instance, the drunken trick that consists in striking systematically in a direction other than the one you're looking towards does wonders. Kind of a sucker punch, except it will work more than just once, and is therefore usable in a combat situation where the opponent is aware of what's coming... It's designed to trick the opponent's sub-conscious mechanics, not his conscious mind (as in making him believe you just got rat-arsed).

The process probably takes some 'intent' from the strikes thus reducing their power a bit (compared to a classical, regular karate strike for instance), but it's definitely a valuable ability to possess. The same goes for those funny moves designed to make you look off-balanced when you actually aren't.

Sorry I may be mistaken..

But isnt the purpose of attacking "drunk" to fool your opponent in making him think you are uncoordinated and flimsy. It is supposed to trick them into believing you dont have the capability of fighting...
