Well, it's surprising to me.

I was reading on JudoInfo.com, and read that this throw was NOT part of the original Kodokan syllabus.

I'm by far no expert, but it does make sense to me that Morote was accepted before Ippon, Ippon being the variation of Morote, as far as I know.

This is because BOTH morote and ippon were thought to be forms of Seoi Nage, which was part of the go kyo back then.

Big Rod,

Interesting. Funny, I forgot the Japanese name, but in Judo (if I remember correctly) the Kimura and the Americana are the same lock...the forearms up on one, down on the other....but the same. Kind of interesting that its divided in BJJ.

They are divided in judo too... sort of.

The kodokan does not allow for "variations". This is why "te guruma" is now "skuki nage".

In Europe they keep the different names to keep things clear.

I mean, think about it, I say "Ude garami", what does that mean? Up? Down? To me it makes it harder to understand.
