No I'm not looking for a circus side-show, but sometimes the new technology (sometimes mind you) is perfectly fine. Not looking for the distorted fun house routne, merely safe & affordible too. Not opposed to merely looking, if it is affordible... and is not undignified.

One mirror 6X4 or 8X4 is more than enough with a curtain to cover it when not in use. Too often, the mirrors will distract students. The teacher or fellow students should be providing the feedback to correct technique when class is going on. Whats happening on the inside is more important than the outside, and should always be stressed to the student its relevance.

Can anyone send good photo links for a outdoor dojo space? (Specific to the entryway preferably)

Door, entryway, fundamental landscaping ideas.... basic layout any dojo/kwan/dojang OUTDOOR specifc photography would be ideal. Alternatively a large simple GAZEBO (with asian "flairs") might do the trick? Perhaps a recently done "teahouse" would function... (c.1900+)?

Anyone willing to share their experiences, their attempts further... surely we cannot be the only ones with this idea...

jeff,i am still working on my dojo construction.i started last nov.i used 8" block walls,concrete floor.over the floor I layed 2x4's flat spaced every 16".these were blown into the concrete with nailgun.over these 2 layers of plywood in opposite directions.strong but still has a spring to it.walls are plywood over the block.electric will be installed in a few weeks.heat will be an old woodstove .some students and I painted a few boards with some artwork.the structure is 14 feet tall at the peak but is 5 feet below grade(ground level).stone steps lead to a door.roof is rolled asphalt shingle.1 large windoe 1 egress window.weapons racks etc.I mounted chinup bars into corners of 2 walls.bathroom will be next year.some students helped a little with construction but mostly myself.i am in the construction business so that helped.good luck.hope this helped out.oh, it is 20 x 40 feet in size.cost so far with some out of pocket and alot of scrounged material about 5K.

Ronin, are you coming to the get together Feb. 26th, If so I would like to show you my home dojo, it's small from a converted garage but a hand full of guys can have a good time. Some day when I learn how to post picture like oldman I will do so. In the mean time my wife is junking it up with stretchy rubber band work out equipment and DVD's .
