i think the only weapon that you can learn by your self is the nunchakus coz if you do smthn worng it will bounce back at ya, hitting your head or body.Thats when you know you did smthn worng and try agin antel it doesnt hit you... but sure its nice to be some exceprt to look at what you have from time to time

Webby...
Round 1: You asked a very common question that was answered by people of experience Result: You ignored the advice (they really weren't blowing you off)
Round 2: You let it be known that your karate Sensei (correct spelling) has a different opinion than you. Result: You disregard his advice w/ the belief that a website or video will transform you into a sword master.
Round 3: You ask the forum members again. Result: You don't learn because you're arrogant, immature & naive ("I'm good @ small weapons", "I taught myself tonfa").
Round 4: I'm telling you in a firm but supportive way that if you really want to progress in the MA & become proficient (as opposed to just being a pretend samurai/Jedi knight), train hard w/ a good instructor taking in everything you can. Only after YEARS (maybe 10), you'll understand what we're telling you. So put your pride aside & be humble but keep that fire going (the excitement of wanting more from MA). Everything will come together in it's own time - no need to rush. Result: ???? (it's your move)
owari
BTW: The chap just above me is full of ideas not necessarily founded on fact.

hedkikr has made some excellent points about your training path, I suggest you read them carefully and take our advice to find an instructor to train in weapons with.
In a few years you'll see things in a different light and I'm sure you will be making some valuable and insightful posts here because of it.

If you've been around this forum for any amount of time, this kind of question often pops up & the same answer goes out to the noob from more seasoned members. Some take it seriously & accept the answer while others get the feeling that there is a conspiracy to keep "secrets" from them.
For you & the countless others who ask (& will ask) the question & are given this answer "Seek out a competent instructor.", know that it is meant in the most sincere & helpful way. You've been fed too much MA-related garbage through the media, buddies & phony masters you'll hopefully learn that many of this forum's members are legit.
Now go seek a competent instructor.

If sword work is not part of his karate curriculum, then perhaps the more pertinent question his sensei should be asking him is WHY does he want to learn the bokken?
Weapons work should reinforce te-waza. It is not a separate thing unto itself. What you do with a weapon is the same as what you do empty handed.
Have you (webby) at least read Dave Lowry's book on the subject?
In any case, you should be talking this over with your "instructure" as it were....
Also, please note the 2nd sticky on this forum....

I can't speak for the others but I am an instructor hence why I know how hard it is for students to understand the lesson even when you are there with them and guiding them through every step and movement.

I'm an instructor who (coincidentally) is working with some other senior instructors on starting up a "kubudo club" within our dojo. and just so no one has an itch to say it, yes, we've sought out competent weapons instructors!
