I did some reaserch and i found out that nunchaku are illigeal in Canada, alabama, California, and new york state.

Seeing how i live in Canada i cant own a pair unless i have a pair that is made of foam or plastic, or i have a liscence, which i have no clue how to get.

I just dont get it !!! you can own a gun, or a sword, but not two pieces of wood connected together gy a flexible joint!

just walk into a police station and they'll have any forms you could want.

alternatively you could just go with line: "no officer they aren't nunchucka - they are my portable wheat thrashers i use for some light thrashing when i get home to make some bread. nothing better than home cooked bread officer. nothing better."

maybe, butwhat i think was that the nunchaku liscence is only in east canada, and i am in west. I may be wrong, they may not even have liscences for them.

I certainly would never tell someone to break the law.

I would tell people to excercise common sense and good judgement.

Odds are if you have a pair of nunchaku, keep them in your gym bag AND ONLY TAKE THEM OUT IN THE PRIVACY OF YOUR HOME OR DOJO, and don't try to show off in the yard for the kids on the street... You probably will not have a problem.

I have trained in many areas where nunchaku and assorted edged weapons that have training/historical value are not permitted by law. I have also trained with police officers and lawyers(barristers??) in these areas, with these weapons.

There are too many murders, drunk drivers, burgulars, etc. that tax law enforcement for them to be worried about an antiquated Okinawan weapon used only for training/historical purposes. As long as you are not waiving them around like a Jack A$$ for your friends or irresponsibly leave them in plain view on the front seat of your car.

Once again this is just my point of view, but then again I have been known to ruthlessly tear the tags off of mattresses with total disregard for public and personal safety

buy some hardwood dowel and use duct tape or some other strong tape and tape them together, it isn't pretty but it works.

and i still stand by my wheat thrashing comment.

If you want a really crazy example, then images of Bruce Lee with nunchakus are censored in UK. During the 1970's the police asked the British board of Film Censors to censor scenes of Lee with his nunchaku.

The upshot was that 25 years after the film had first been released you were unable to see the complete nunchaku scene in the cinema or on TV. In some versions you couldn't even see him use the things at all. One moment he is using the kali sticks and the next he is sitting in the cave with a set of flails around his neck.

It also affected the film "Dragon: the Bruce Lee story" and the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles cartoon (note, can't use the word 'ninja' on BBC kids programme.

being oblivious to some of these laws, let me ask this? Are these weapons allowed in Dojos in these areas or are they totally banned?
