Had my first class the other day and it was great. What really impressed me is that the owner/master insructor taught all of the classes. I've seen other places where the owner was never around and had a couple of chronies teaching. I learned a lot just in one day and got a great workout.

i just moved to chicago almost four months ago. in the first three weeks, my dog was mauled by a vicious rotty, my bike was stolen and i was threatened three times with violence. this is a great city, but it has it's dangers. for the last two months, i have been training in krav maga and it has become an obsessive way-of-life practice. i even quit drinking to get in better shape for the rigorous training at my gym. the sifus are all incredible, highly experienced mma-ists and their instruction has elevated my conscious of my surroundings to new levels. i seem to have an aptitude for krav and intend to master it. i think that the most important lesson one can learn from it is that eventually, you will not be afraid of losing a fight, but of fighting at all. krav has an incredible history and it is such an expandable art. this may be one of the best things i've ever done for myself.

It was one of the best things I did for myself, so I understand your mindset.

Wow. Thats a really powerful revelation. Its really interesting to see how martial arts can influence/drastically change someone's life. Good luck with your training. Sorry for hijacking the thread but what are some other reasons people decided to train in Krav? I did it because its specifically self-defense oriented and it brings me peace.

same reasons, more or less. i've actually known about it for a while, being very interested in israel's history and coming from a jewish heritage where many of my relatives were wiped out in wwII. i also think it's the best form for urban self defense, especially when it comes to women.

I started taking KM because i've always wanted to study a martial art but was worried about the relevance and the time needed to become proficient in that art. I do believe that other forms of MA have their place but krav is good for modern day self defense. I also like it because it is a great workout.
