Hey guys. i have been reading this book called "the art of expressing the human body" by john little and they keep talking about how bruce lee did shadow kickboxing and i dont know what that is. i hear about things like shadow boxing and that stuff but i dont know what it is. all i seem to gather is that you are punching at your shadow or something. what do you have to do to shadowbox? what exactly are you doing when you are shadow kickboxing? is there any website that could help explain it to me also? how do you do it? sorry if this seems like a stupid question but i never understood what it is.

Dude, this is the same thing as boxing. Shadow boxing...single person excercise...thus you and you shadow. See shadow boxing for same explanation.

And no offense, but do a bit of Googling for the information. See what you bring up under boxing and translate the same actions to include kicking.

Yeah. It's basically just kicking and punching in the air. I read the same book (really good, wasn't it?), and I tried it. It's really good for just loosening up, letting yourself flow (which is good for me, because I tend to think too much about what I'm doing instead of just letting it flow through me), and provides a moderately good cardio exercise (depending on how good of shape you're in, and how fast you shadow box). Hope this helped!

Well where I come from It is essential to visualize your opponent. Like "Now comes a jab bob to the right then a left hook to the body and move to the side and one two" "To keep your mind in it" so to speak.
Shadow boxing in front of a mirror is good practice to see how your techniques look like and hows your package when you move.

Other similar excersice would be shadow boxing with partner.. like keep a 1m distance from each other and react to each others moves.
