A little landscaping could help with that, Sanchin. I trained outside for a while as well, it was different from inside, but I enjoyed it. Seems like if you're training for SD, training in different situations/environments should be a requirement.

"I am in PA, and I pay $65.00 per month for two classes per week. This also includes fight class, but not the protective gear."- RangerG
only 2 nights a week??? yuo mean you cannot go more than twice a week, or you only go 2 nights a week? My ishin-Ryu Karate had me goin 2 nights a week maximum, and i was payin $80 a month.
"$90 here, but you can take as many classes as you like. Fight class you have to buy your own gear, which they have the pro shop selling a package priced $130 that includes everything. "- Equis
thats the way to go, IMHO, i wouldn't mind paying a little more if i can get a little more.

I can go more nights if I wish. I can also take kick boxing at no additional charge if I wish. I can also go in on weekends and spar if there is nothing else going on. I was giving an example.

I just saw that your on LI. Me too. I just checked KM out tonight and loved it. If you're a student, it's dirt cheap because you get a discount. Check out Krav Maga Long Island.. Krav Maga LI

yea I'd seen that school but didn't check it out cause it's a bit too far away from me -- what did you think of it? was the pricing similar to where I'm going? what town are you from?
Unfortunately I'm not a student so I'm not eligible for a discount. right now I'm looking at taking krav for 2 months, and then if all has gone well I'll be in the police academy and that will be my focus for a while, then will pick up with krav once I finish the academy.
it's a good plan, lets hope it turns out that way!
edit: I'm from smithtown by the way

I liked the class a lot. Very friendly, very helpful instructors. My girlfriend actually lives close to you. She's in Commack. I'm in East Meadow so it's basically right up the road from me. It's a little cramped but it's bearable. It would be $110 per month for me and probably closer to $130 a month for you if you took the full package with all the available options (50% off special seminars, discounts on classes, free hand wraps, etc). They also give discounts to military and law enforcement personnel. I can't really give good advice on your situation as far as whether or not you should bother starting up Krav Maga for two months. That's more for the veterans. I see it in two ways. One way is- if you can only take the class for two months, it might not be a good idea to start. It might leave you longing for it and become a burden. You might just give up on it altogether. You might start to love the style and not want to give it up after the two months. However, in those two months, you might learn something that can save your life if and when you're on the force. I personally would take the classes for the 2 months. You learn a lot of stuff in each class and it's not difficult to retain. Again, this is the opinion of a 19 year old that doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground when it comes to making "adult decisions", so take it with a grain of salt. In the 1 hour the class lasted, we learned defenses against being mounted and against a choke from behind, practiced kicks and punches, basic (emphasis on the basic) training for knife defense, practiced stances and learned a joint manipulation technique. It's all very simple "Why didn't i think of that" kind of stuff. Just simple bends in the wrist and such. My partner was a girl that couldn't have weighed more than 110lbs and though my kicks could have sent her across the room where hers didn't even budge me (while we were kicking the pads), the other techniques were just as effective for her as they were for me. It doesn't take a ton of strength to bend someone's joints enough to manipulate their movements. I had quite a bit of an advantage in striking power over her though. I suppose that's why KM stresses striking weak areas like the eyes and groin. Good luck in your decision (If some of this sounds like babbling, it's 3AM so forgive me )

lol don't worry about it
sounds like our schools are similar in pricing and lesson style, which is interesting. I'll keep the one you went to in mind for the future, depending on where I'm stationed if and when I make it to the PD, I may move someplace near my sector, which could be over there.
yea I'm definitely gonna do the 2 months, I'm very psyched about it and will go to at least 3 classes a week, so I know I'll get a lot of out the 2 months I go for. who knows, I'll see how I can manage in the academy and maybe go to one class a week throughout.
I definitely don't see myself stopping either krav or some other form of martial art, if I make it to the academy, since this will be to protect my life.
if your gf is from commack chances are good she's been to the park I worked at for 8 years -- ask her if she ever went to hoyt farm on commack road -- I still work there a few days a year when they need me.

I am currently taking KM in Buffalo,NY. I pay about $90 for unlimited classes. I find the price to be fair, they also have a full gym to workout in at any time.
