Hey guys i had my first fight a couple weeks ago at bangla stadium in patong, phuket after 2 1/2 months of training in muay thai. I was pretty disapointed with how i did as i think my lack of fitness and aggression let me down. Also i dropped my hands a lot and i know i couldve done a lot better than i did. I just wanted some opinions on it and constructive criticism. Thanks in advance http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uvsnATxnTH0And be nice i know it is bad <^_^>

It seemed like you were being overwhelmed by his combinations. You would block a few hits but he would usually end up hitting you with his boxing then while you start blocking using the philly shell he would come up clinch you and use his elbow and knee's. You didn't really commit to any of your strikes to acutally hurt him physically and mentaly. all his strikes did effect you mentally you seemed to stay back and not want to get hit isntead of trying to strike him and yes like you said you kept your hands very low totally open to be hit by basically any of his strikes. Your head is super important... You did manage to get some good leg kicks in, I think you trained more keeping your opponent back at your range out-fighting then up close in-fighting none the less, it was a very intertaining fight good job, atleast it was a decision and not a knock out

How many fights has that guy had? He looked tough and I thought in the beginning you were doing well. I think conditioning was your problem conditioning is king in the ring. Plus you have only had 2 1/2 months of training so you have time to improve. Great job!

The other guy said he had had 7 fights but some people told me they had seen him fight more than that. I was supposed to be fighting someone else and assumed it would be a thai guy. But nevermind, live and learn ^_^. Thanks for the feedback, I'll make sure im fitter next time

Nice job, Phil. Nothing to be ashamed of. It looked to me that the other guy had a bit more experience than you, especially in the clinch. For only training 2.5 months, you did well, IMHO. You threw some nice leg kicks, and some good punches. Don't forget about elbows - the other guy didn't. Thanks for sharing.

I only just checked this thread out, and, whilst your clip may not have ended in a glamourous win, you took more punishment after 2.5 months of training than many MA ists take in their entire life! You ate up a lot of pain there, and tellingly, your best reactions and moments in the fight came when under pressure. That bodes well if full contact competition is where your heart lies. Your skills are raw, and maybe you gassed, but you are a tough m-f'er, and the rest will fall into place. Good job

For your 1st fight that was Ok, you could tell that he had more experience but you are pretty tough you took some pretty good shots and didn't go down. I think you need to work your boxing inside fighting more and jab and left hooks with side to side footwork that would have aided you well. Your right hand is ok it just need a little more work, follow that with an elbow. I think you should have worked your reach advantage with the Jab and Leg kicks along with sliping in some head kicks after a right hand or elbow. When he moved in use your side to side head movement, in the clinch that same downward elbow would really work for you because you were taller.
You really didn't get a chance to go offense because he kept you moving back, circling and side to side footwork would have served you there. So that you could counter when he missed.
Again that was a tough 1st fight you lasted and didn't quit after absorbing some hard hits. You got the heart you just need a little more technique and a game plan.
In full contact sports they throw wringers at you with depleted records that are padded, just so their fighter can get some rounds in. If that was true I wish you would have taken him out, next time have your trainer or manager ask for a documented records of fights. He wasn't a beginner you did yourself proud, it gave you something to work on.

Thankyou for posting it You have been here long enough to know that there are a few elitist pr1cks who come through spouting their great knowledge and prowess, and making claims of a lifetime's training; only to be proved smothered in their ego, and unwilling to either put up, or shut up.
To have someone come along and say, 'this is me, I am a work in progress and i had a bloody good go' is both refreshing and fantastic.
Much respect
