Just want to see how advanced our members are in this system. Are you happy with it so far? What would you change if anything? Thanks.

I've been doing Krav for about 5 months, just went to level 2.
I had some experience with Karate, TKD and another MMA but never got beyond orange belt. I enjoyed those but I've found Krav to be much more practical and a much better workout than the others. It's very much what I was looking for in a martial art; a straight forward way to fight and defend myself.
As a point of interest I was watching a UFC dvd for the first time in years and as soon as I saw the first fight I realized that Krav is very similar to what they do, boxing stance and punching along with knees, elbows, some simple Karate style kicks, and Ju Jitsu style groundwork. Probably the biggest difference is Krav has defenses for weapons that of course wouldn't be necessary for UFC style fighting.
One thing I'd like to see in Krav that I haven't seen so far is more ways to relatively gently control people, such as putting their arm behind their back so you can move them from point A to point B, the kinds of things a cop or bouncer would use to get rid of difficult people without really hurting them. We may learn more stuff like this, since I'm a beginner I'm not entirely sure what we'll learn in the future.

May I suggest that when possible, to train with Ryan Hoover at:
www.rhek.com
Ryan has spent years as a bouncer. He gave a seminar here in PA that was outstanding and contained many of points you touched on.
He is hosting a seminar with Bas Rutten and Randy Couture in July. At this point, I intend to go.

I have trained in the material up into the Brown Belt level, but to be honest, I would say that if I was testing for belts, I would probably be an Orange or Green.
I love it!
Less politics and the infighting between the two Krav factions.

I think less politics could apply to all martial arts! This is one reason why we don't belong to any association. Two KM factions??

There is the original KM organization and a break off group or something like that.

There are alot more than two. Just two that are more well known in the USA.
More Krav organizations worldwide than parties in the Knesset. Also even within organizations there are different names in different countries. You can get a headache just trying to figure out KM in Europe.
The common bond is that all of the "Grandmasters" and "Chief Instructors" trained with Imi Lichtenfeld and the Israeli Krav Maga Association (IKMA) prior to his passing in the 1990's.

ranger, can you keep us posted about that seminar, please?
I trained in km almost 20 years ago, in israel, in the IDF. I havent really touched it since, and I don't know anything about how the schools or the po;itics are set up in the US.

The website for the Seminar is: www.rhek.comIt is on July 23 and 24 in NC. The fee for the seminar is $200.00 for both days and you must be registered by July 15. You will need to make your own hotel and transportation arrangements. I'm driving down from PA and staying with a buddy just over the SC border...about 20 min from the dojo. 704 867-4020 and ask for Ryan or Jeff with any questions. Just a quick note, this is not a Krav seminar per say, this is a Bas Rutten MMA seminar using his system. RangerG

Well I am not happy with my KM training at all, I see some guy posted he has taken KM for 5 months and just got to KM2. I have done it for 9 months and I am still at the KM1 level, and looking at what I need to pass the yellow belt test I am pissed off at my isntructors and the school itself for being so passive about pushing their students. KM1 students come and go out of this place like it was a bad fashion idea. I am about 2 heartbeats away from quitting and do some Tae Kwon Do instead.

I did KM for 9 months and was P3. This is with 15+ years of former training. It would allow for fast progression if you could do any of the techniques or learnt fast. So many have left because they just wearnt moving any further. Yet after 1 year away I find I have gone back because no other styles train as hard.
Im trying to get on an instructors course so I can dispose of the politics some what.
And progress further.
